Knuckle Grind

Hi Sifu,

What are the most common holds/grabs in which the knuckle grind (where you grind into the back of the opponent's hand with your knuckles)is used as a method of escape?

Hello Rene!

While this technique can be used on anyone by anyone, it is especially effective for women. Anytime someone has grabbed you in any way, if you can get to their hand with yours, make a fist, then extend the middle knuckle (what is known as the dragon's fist in some Chinese arts). Grin that knuckle forcefully into the center of the back of the opponent's hand. It is extremely painful, and they either let go immediately or suffer tremendous pain! Anyone can do this and it requires no strength at all, which is one reason that it works so well for women!
