INTRO

Hello, my name is Jason (I will let the last name be a mystery:). I have been a martial artist off and on for 6 years (college will do it to you). I have studied Taekwondo, some Capoeria, boxing and little bit of BJJ. Oh yeah if it helps, I have studied Bruce Lee's JKD book, had a friend who trained with Inosanto and Paul Vunak, and I studied Krishnamurti (Bruce Lee's philosopher) in school. So, I know alot about the surface and philosophical side of JKD. Man that is deep book.

Questions
I have 3 main questions. The first.

1. I realize the JKD hook kick is like a Savate kick, however it is extremely hard not to chamber my leg. I have been throwing Taekwondo kicks forever and can't seem to break it. I guess you just swing you leg? I mean if that were the case wouldn't that be a scraping like kick. I noticed whe Bruce threw it it had some umph behind it. Tips?

2. I live in a small country town outside of Knoxville TN. There are no JKD schools, just a couple of MCDOjos. Moreover I am strapped for cash (Just graduated waiting on employment calls) and all of my training partners are back in Nashville (MTSU grad). So umm should I just suck up my pride and head over to a Mcdojo and get some KIND OF training? I asked this to some JKD guy on Youtube and he said that would be a bad idea... Just curious everyone here.

3. I believe I have asked some people this but i just needed some Advice. Okay, I have Scoliosios, I kick better with my left leg, when I kick with my right I feel I pull in my back. My left leg not only kicks harder, I am more coordinated with it. However, I hit alot harder with my right hand and have better coordination and rhythm in it. So should I practice my left side forward or right? and why?

Thanks everyone.

The Jeet Kune Do kicking method advocates getting your power from the waist and the hip, not from chambering the leg. There will be some natural bend in the leg if you truly follow a straight line to your target, which is the JKD way. You do not just swing your leg! The pivot on the ball of the supporting foot, the whip of the hips and the torque of the waist is where the power comes from. As the hips roll over (as in the high hook kick) you turn your foot into the target and snap it from the knee. This is where the "THWACK" comes from in Bruce Lee's hook kicks.

NO ... DO NOT just settle for anything! If you are truly interested in Jeet Kune Do, training further in any other martial art is just going to cause you to develop more bad habits that you will be struggling to try to get rid of when you do get into real JKD training! Oh, and by the way, did you know that where I am is not that far from you? You are just a few hours away. You could come down for seminars, training camps, etc. if you are truly interested in learning Jeet Kune Do!

Right side forward! It is the power HAND that determines the lead in Jeet Kune Do!

A suggestion to your first question
i always try to bring my knee up the same way in both the groin and hook kick so not to telegraph it and the onlt thing thats different is the turning of the foot.

Thanks everyone. Mr. Davis, I hope to meet you sometime this summer (hopefully I'll have some Chedda stacked It is a pleasure discussing martial arts with open minded and humble individuals who know what they are talking about.
