False JKD? Any Legal action against this?

Hey, its me Jason E. For some reason my password wouldn't work and I had to get another name. Oh well. I have a question. Is this a fraud? http://jkdunlimited.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=50&Itemid=10

I saw Mr. Davis' articles on false JKD and was wondering how do people get away with that kind advertising.

Just out of curiousity, if anyone here knows anything about law.. Isn't their a copyright infringement of false deceptive advertising to call anything JKD? I mean it seems that some schools will teach anything and call it JKD and certify people with a DVD sent through the mail. I mean wouldn't their be a law against this if these instructors were training Law Enforcement officers or children for that matter with stuff that would get them killed.

It's Legit!

February 13 2008, 7:21 PM

Hi Jason!

That is Burton Richardson, who is certified by Dan Inosanto. Therefore, anyone who comes up under him would be considered legitimate!

One More Thing!

February 13 2008, 7:32 PM

Jeet Kune Do is a common term describing a martial art, just like karate, judo, aikido, savate, etc. This makes it easy for anyone to say that they are teaching Jeet Kune Do! It is up to the idividual to do the research and find out whether the person they are thinking about training with is legitimate. This is when it is a good idea to belong to a legitimate organization such as the Hardcore Jeet Kune Do Chinese Gung Fu Association. Anyone who knows very much about Jeet Kune Do knows for a fact that I am legitimate, therefore anyone who is certified by me to teach will be legitimate also! There are too many misguided souls out there who have no clue what Jeet Kune Do really is. They think you can take a little of this and a little of that and mix it up and call it Jeet Kune Do. These people are very mistaken, and have interpreted Bruce Lee's writings too loosely! There is a definite structure to Jeet Kune Do and a definite Jeet Kune Do way to do things! If that structure is not there, it just isn't Jeet Kune Do!

about Burton

February 14 2008, 2:34 PM

hi guys ,

i think that people in the jkd world judge to fast who is a good jkd instructer or not .

i fallowed the guidance of Burton Richardon's in martial arts cause jkd is my faverite approch in combat and i have learned all the techniques that the (original) jkd dudes teach

the only differance is that its not the only tools and techniques that he consider good , we can say that he have his own preference and techniques but he let his student choose what they consider the best for them .

so i think that its pretty good . the thing is that he faver approch that have been proved in actual combat or hard sparring wish is good in my point of view.

to me its like saying the guys that teach or have learned midified wing-chun , gung-fu or a very early stage of jun fan gung-fu and say they teach jkd it do not have more sense.

i think its not bad if people go in differant direction whit what they have learned in jkd.

i personnaly learn from differant jkd camps but i dont consider myself completely in any and i consider Burton like a good example of a great martial artist whatever the style you put him in

thats all

a plus !

Yeah, umm

Well Marc, I see what you are saying. Sort of. You have alot typos and run on sentences its kind of hard to comprehend what you are saying. My question of his legitimacy was answered, however I never did doubt he was a reputable martial artist. I just thought it was well... Funny that he could certify people through a DVD.

umm , yeah!

February 14 2008, 7:11 PM

hi Jason ,

i was answering about the jkd name quote you did mostly

and about the dvd , he dont give a certificate whit a dvd in a package deal :P

you have to be tested for that .

one way is to make a film of certain techniques , whit rounds of focus mitts, sparring etc .

i personally think that its a good idea.

if it would be like, i sell my set of 5 dvds whit a black belt and an instructor certificate that would be very cheap ass , i know that type of stuff existe for almost any martial arts styles available on the planet.

about my english , its cause my mother tongue is french so im sorry if what i write is not perfectly clear but i make big efforts

take care

a plus!
