Hi Sifu,

Does the Upside down palm (as performed in Siu Lim Tao) fit in during trapping sequences like the Vertical and Side Palms? What are some of the targets for this palm?

Thanks,

Rene

tan sao

March 20 2008, 5:28 PM

If you are talking about the tan sao this is used as a parry for an incoming straight punch. If done correctly and the persons energy is coming at you in force and not just a jab your fingers/hand can become an upside-dowm bil gee. Otherwise it is a parry. Match that with a punch and it is tan da ot turn the tan sao into a lop sao (grabbing hand) and punch with the other hand to get a lop da. Hope this explined it.

Not Tan Sao

I'm not talking about Tan Sao. I am talking about the palm strike where you have to bend the fingers back to strike with the heel of the hand. It is kind of like an upside down Yun Jeong (vertical palm).

Palm strike

I think the main target for this strike is the chin or jaw.

To clarify, I believe he's talking about the 2nd to last section where you Bong Sao, Gum Sao (sinking elbow), and then palm strike out. I "think" the target is the chin, mouth, nose area.

the wing ghun use

is the strike is done to the chest and sternum area. This can also be used to "push" the person away from you so that you can kick etc... I perfer to just hit with a fist. If you look at the wooden dummy form you will see how it is applied.

Erich Is Correct!

The inverted palm strike is used to the chin/jawline area to drive the head back, exposing the throat as a target. Sat sao with the other hand is the most common followup.
