You have probably answered this question before but it just won't go away and people keep asking.
Who are the foremost practitioners in JKD who trained with Bruce Lee, when did they train with him and for how long? (ie dates etc)

What are the official dates of the three schools?

Hello Martin!

Bruce Lee started teaching in Seattle around 1959 or so. I do not have an official opening date for the Seattle kwoon. The Oakland kwoon started on August 3rd, 1964. The L. A. Chinatown kwoon started on February 5th, 1967. All of these schools, while not in their original locations, have existed in some form or another since they were first opened.

Among the students from each period, the most well known (still living) are:

Seattle - Jesse Glover, Taky Kimura, James DeMile, Patrick Strong

Oakland - Leo Fong, Allen Joe, George Lee, Howard Williams, Dave Cox, Al Novak

L. A. Chinatown - Dan Inosanto, Bob Bremer, Jerry Poteet, Steve Golden, Daniel Lee, Ted Wong

The Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute Seattle was founded in 1960 by Bruce Lee.
(I'm still looking for the exact date)
Sigung Taky was made an Assistant Instructor by Bruce in 1964 and the Institute ran to 1967. It then operated as a private school to 2005 when it opened its doors to the public.

Hi Martin!

I visited the school that was located under Taky Kimura's grocery store. It was an awesome place, and I hated to hear of it's closing when Taky decided to get out of the grocery business. It was a huge training space, and I think there was close to fifty students training the night that I visited! I particularly remember Roy Hollingsworth. He was amazingly fit for a man of his age!
