Hello Everyone,
There are several methods of straight blasting! I have learned several myself. Below is a description of the primary straight blast that I teach. IT WORKS!
The JIK CHUNG CHUIE, or VERTICAL FIST BLAST/STRAIGHT BLAST, is a rapid series of overhand rotation vertical fist punches delivered right into the opponent's centerline (usually anywhere from three to twelve punches)! These punches are delivered fast and hard with full upper body commitment to assure that once you begin the punches, the opponent NEVER has time to recover or even slightly regain their composure! This is the fastest repetition punching method humanly possible!
I advocate inflicting initial damage before starting the blast. In other words, if the opponent is injured, it will be even harder for him to defend against the speed and power of the blast!
The important thing is to thrust right up the centerline with the punches, making sure to thrust from the center in a straight line. The hands should not pass or loop, but one punch goes out right over the recovering punch that just struck and so on and so on until you finish! This also allows the recovering hand to knock away any obstructions that attempt to block the path of your punches! The recovering hand pulls back no further than the elbow of the extended punching arm. This is very important in the defensive process during the blast, and also to assure that the next punch impacts as quickly as possible!
The footwork that normally accompanies the straight blast is the chasing step, which is a rapid series of push shuffles. This enables you to control your balance while executing the punches, and keep from falling clumsily forward if the opponent suddenly goes down in front of you from the continuous impact of your punches! Instead, this enables you to execute a swift JIK TEK (straight kick) to assist them with their fall!
DO NOT run at the person like some people advocate! This can lead to disaster! This bogs down your punches, causing you to deliver looping, scraping impact punches rather than direct thrusts that impact like battering rams! You also have no control over your forward momentum if you just run at them!
Also, the shortened arc principle is applied in the straight lead intercepting fist punch, but not the Jik Chung Chuie (unless you are thinking of something different than the basic short arc straight punch). If you tried to executed Jik Chung Chuie with the short arc, it would mess up the rotation sequence of the hands on the centerline. In a proper Jik Chung Chuie, neither hand EVER leaves the centerline until you change to some other method of attacking!
And yes, this is just ONE WAY of doing the straight blast, but it is also my personal favorite! Learned and executed correctly, it is pretty much unstoppable! Notice, however, that the key word here is CORRECTLY! I hope this helps!
Keep Blasting!
