Question Regarding "Hillbilly" Jeet Kune Do

I was searching for some Jeet Kune Do books and saw a Hill Billy Jeet Kune Do of the Appalachain mountains. I literally live next to the appalachains (Smokies to be specific,=), and found it odd there was book that had a Jeet Kune Do twist on it.

The name of the author is Stanley Wayne Cox, and apparently he has a movie.http://coxjkd.com/products.htm

I am curious if this guy is legitimate, or just playing "possum" . The reason for my curiousity is the Appalachain affiliation. Other than that.....

actually

Stanley Cox's school is located in the Ozarks (Gurdon, Arkansas) not the Appalachain mountains. If I am not mistaken he was born in one of the states that have the Appalachain range running through it and paid "tribute" to them. Legit or not to each his own.

or at least

his version of JKD is what he teaches. I haven't really seen him in action other than the book; but you know those "hillbilly" mountain towns and such they have some strange looking people and are little behind on the "fashion" sense. Can we say "Mullet Man" and "Fro bro" to the rescue.

Number to call

April 28 2008, 11:03 AM

Hi Jason:

The number to call for Hillbilly JKD is: BR-549.

Just kidding. I think Sifu Davis has that book.
I have seen it, too. Pretty funny.

I am trying to move to the Smokies myself. What
area are you near?

Thanks,

Dick

Maryville, or Murvull as the locals call it. Hey let me know when you move, I would love to train with you or be your student.

Hi Jason:

Thanks for the response. It would be great to
get together for some JKD!

I just heard that one of our men from down here,
who moved to Maryville last November is coming
back. I just emailed him about his property
up there. We will see what happens. I am praying
for God's direction.

Hope to meet you, soon. I hope to come to the
Instructor's Camp in June in Oneonta. I hope
you can make it.

God bless you.

The Man Dick Referred To

April 29 2008, 9:18 PM

Hi Jason!

I think Dick is referring to someone who works for the same company as him. I don't think his comment has anything to do with martial arts. However, if Dick does move up there, he would certainly be someone who you would enjoy training with!

As for Stanley Wayne Cox, I got his book. It is hilarious! I laughed until I had tears running down my face! And the thing is, to Stanley, I don't think the book was intended to be funny! While I definitely wouldn't want to ever train with him, his book is well worth getting just for humor value!

Friend in Tenn.

April 30 2008, 8:50 AM

Hi Jason:

What Sifu Davis said is correct. This man in
Maryville worked for the company I work for.
He is not in JKD.

I just heard this week that he is moving back
to Birmingham. Must be necessary. I know I
would not want to leave the Smokies.

Have a great day and I hope to train with you,
soon.

Dick
