Restuffing a Heavy Punching Bag

In my quest to get my training area set up....

I had a cheap Everlast 100lb Bag that had RIDICULOUS hard spots on it.
One part would be very soft and then all of a sudden a spot would feel like kicking a stack of bricks.

SO

I opened up the bag.
It was filled with shredded Fabric....I got a few trash bags ready and started pulling the stuffing out.
There were TEN bags of Sand in it that had shifted to the sides of the bag.

I completely emptied the bag.
Then I took some Foam padding that I had (Auralex Acoustic treatment is what I had but Carpet padding works well).
I made a tube out of the foam and lined the inside of the bag with it.
I put some foam in the very bottom as well...I like to practice kicking the Bottom of the bag.

Then I started cramming the stuffing back in and periodically adding a Sand Bag (making sure they were centered). You have to pack the Bag as TIGHT as you can.
It will settle a lot as you hit it.
I didn't get all of the stuffing back in it (there was a lot of added foam).
Today I opened it up and crammed in more of it.
I'm sure I'll have to keep doing that for a while.

This just adds a nice workout as it is hard to hang up a 100lb bag by yourself

Hope this helps someone.

Good Job John!

Hi John!

Sounds like you are doing a great job of getting that bag back in shape! I know what you mean about the hard spots. I have a 100 lb. Everlast bag in my private training area at the kwoon and it has some pretty hard spots on it as well!

Keep Blasting!

Yes...if you ever see the insides of it, the Sandbags are Vacuum packed and can have sharp corners on them.

The Bag you have out next to the training floor is nice and even.
It feels like it has a nice layer of foam on the outside already.

On of my enduring memories of Muay Thai was my first night on the 6 foot heavy bag. Nice and comfortable to punch, and I was getting into it and learning to control the bag.

Unknown to me, all the sand filling had settled to the bottom, so when I threw my first low line kick... YOW! It was like slamming your shin into concrete! Hehehe!
