Hey guys
What do you find to be the most effective way to practice techniques and improve your skills? Do you try to practice techniques at least a certain amount per day like 100 straight punches a day? Do you have days for working punches and other days for kicks? How often a week do you practice?
Thanks
Tom

Everything By FEEL!

Hello Tom!

I tend to base my training on what it FEELS like I need to work on, and even then, sometimes I am restricted by the amount of time that I have! I tried several times to come up with a schedule and stick to it, but I have too many variables in my life on a day-to-day basis to stick to any kind of "set" routine. I am looking forward to the coming springtime and summer, when I plan to go outside late at night and train. Between now and then I plan to build a really cool covered outside training area ... kind of a "martial arts gazebo" if you can imagine that! It will be complete with mook jongs, bags, various spring arm devices and several other pieces of equipment that exist only in my head right now. One advantage that I have is that we have just over two acres of land, and I can put this training area anywhere that I want to on that two acres! That is my next big goal to accomplish once I finish the things I am working on right now (which are too many to even go into here), and that is when my skill level will really skyrocket! Can't wait to tackle this project! happy.gif

You know.

When I train by myself it is very informal. I get the Impulse and I go from there.

I generally mix up the punches and kicks (so that way I don't get bored) and work on foot work.

Also when I'm just walking around (I take my dog to the park) I will practice tan and boang sao parries. It looks goofy and I generally get stared at but it forces me to train martial arts in my leisure.

On the quiet, There is a Bird House trail map holder thing on the trail, and I practice my one inch punch on. It is still intact however I do notice a slight indention of a medium sized fist that fits my hand. Oh well.

I guess the most important thing is let it become part of your life and don't let it control you. YOU CAN BURN OUT.

I found it is best to practice a little at a time and stay consistent, than kill yourself and never want to do it again.

Same goes with learning new techniques. I found out by working with Dick, it is best to slow down and patient with oneself so the technique absorbs. You learn faster by slowing down. NO JOKE. Talk about oxymoron.

Anywho that is my take.
