I got back from training with Sifu Dick Jefferies (he likes that title by the way:)

Anywho, one question arose. I was in right lead bai jong and Dick threw a left Jab. I boang saued and lopped to a back fist.

Dick noticed I didn't "sow" under neath.

BUT

His jab got pretty close to my face where if I did sow underneath I would be grabbing his arm pit.

Is this the only time to Lop over instead of under? Or do I just need to get my boang sau quicker?

Hi Jason!

You are talking about a defensive trap. In that situation, wu sao acts as a backup to boang sao, and the grab is not over or under, it just simply "is". In other words you grab with the wu sao hand, which will be behind your boang sao, so just lop his wrist and roll the qua chuie, or hit low with ping chuie! It is when they defend against YOUR attack that you want to try to grab underneath with the lop sao! Hope that clears it up for you!
