hey guys!i have been working on getting more power out of a sidekick in the natural position.
i am trying to make it as fast and nontelegraphic as possible.but i find i have more power when i chamber and fire the kick than just lifting my leg up and kicking using the heal and my hips.
the retraction time seems slower, any pointers?i would appreciate any advice.
thanks,
christopher

Sifu has always made known the importance of having a strong core to generate the most torque possible. Which will lead to increased power in any of JKD' strikes.

After health problems and weight gain I fully understand how the strength of the core body equals the amount of power one can generate for strikes.

Not sure that I can explain this in writing but I'll try.

Experiment with standing in Bai Jong.
Now Rotate you lead foot sideways and stomp your Heel into the ground (without lifting your leg).
Make it SNAP.
Dropping your Body Weight into it helps.
That timing and hip motion is what is need to generate power.

Adding a forward lunge into it makes it stronger.

From your post refering to the chambering of the leg I assume you have had traditional martial arts training. When you chamber the leg in traditional arts you turn your hip over when you chamber then you fire the leg out. The change you have to make in the no chamber sidekick is to turn the hip over on contact or impact. This will make a major difference on your sidekick

Hope this helps
Joe
