Sifu
I have done Chi Sao with you and with people in Wing Chun. I found that you have alot more forward pressure than the WC people I have had the opportunity to roll with. The WC people were alot smaller than you and seemed to work on more touch or sensitivity. No pressure, or just alot less than you. When rolling with you my arms are killing me in moments, not so with them, and talking to them they emphasised sensitivity not preasure. Was wondering why the difference.
Many thanks
Joe

Sorry forgot a major question. Is that a personal thing per individual or the difference between JKD and WC

Thanks again
Joe

Energies In Chi Sao

April 2 2009, 12:14 PM

Hello Joe!

I teach about three different energies for chi sao in my classes. They are light pressure (as WC people normally do), medium pressure, which is what you referred to as my method, and heavy pressure, which is chi sao as practiced bt Jesse Glover. They all have their purpose, but light pressure is what I actually prefer! To me, that develops more "pure" sensitivity, and your ability to react immediately to any changes in structure during chi sao.

Keep Blasting!

Sifu beat me to the punch (but that is JKD, isn't it?)
I also utilize the different pressures. As sifu states, light pressure is more conducive to developing sensitivity. Webers Law basically states that the more stimulus that is present, the more difficult it is to detect a change in the stimulus. We do use heavier pressure at times to test the students structure.
