Hello Everyone!
As many of you know, we have been "hopping around" a bit lately from location to location. I know that it is aggravating to all of you, as it is extremely aggravating to me! Keeping that in mind, I have been working toward lining everything up to open the ideal kwoon in a permanent location. In other words, the kwoon that I have always wanted to have. Well, I have some GREAT NEWS for all of you! It will open sometime during the month of June, and it will be a storefront location in a retail shopping center in Leeds, Alabama, which is just east of Birmingham. This is going to be really good, as my partner in this venture is the owner of the shopping center, and he has an interest in learning Jeet Kune Do himself! For those of you in Birmingham, Leeds is actually quite convenient, especially since the kwoon is right off I-20.
The building is laid out perfectly for the kwoon, and has central air and heat. The main room will be left wide open for classes. There will be a room right off the rear of the main room for training equipment such as bags, mook jongs and springarms. There is a nice restroom and changing room in the back as well. There will be a retail area where training clothes, sparring gear, training equipment, instructional DVDs and other JKD related merchandise will be sold.
The kwoon is less than half a mile off I-20, and there are four nice hotels and a lot of really nice restaurants right around the exit, so it is a perfect place to hold seminars, training camps and Instructor's Conferences. There is even a Chinese Buffet a few doors down from the kwoon! There will be a lighted sign that says "KUNG FU" in Oriental style letters right on the front of the building. I wanted to go with "GUNG FU", but I was advised to use KUNG FU because that is what people recognize. We will have Jun Fan Gung Fu classes for kids (ages 6-14), yoga classes for anyone interested and Hardcore Jeet Kune Do classes for adults.
Now what I need to know is WHO IS INTERESTED in becoming a member of this awesome new location? I will be keeping my classes at Sportplex in Hoover as well, unless everyone from Sportplex decides they would rather be in a TOTAL JEET KUNE DO atmosphere and belong to the new kwoon. It will not cost you any more to belong to the kwoon, so please keep that under consideration when deciding what you want to do.
