Hello Dick!
This movement is to train you to (1) seek the centerline with your elbow and (2) put forward energy into your fook sao so that it does not yield to pressure! It also trains your huen sao and the snap into the wrist for your jut sao and ingrains into your neuromuscular system to stop your wu sao before it gets pressed into the body. In other words ... MANY important things!!! Hope that helps!
