Props to JKD

I was just listening to an interview with John Jones(MMA titlist) on The Two Live Stews sports talk show here in ATL. He said at the end of the interview that he is wearing a Jeet Kune Do shirt and that is now his fighting attitude to be like water. He said he admired Bruce Lee and loved the combat attitude of JKD...I thought that was big because we dont always get our proper respect from MMA guys. BTW, I am not an MMA fan by any means and still love boxing on tv, but this upcoming fight in in Atlanta in April for a championship and I thought it was neat he mentioned our art as he is so highly respected by all the muay thai and gjj guys I know.

Peace!

Jeff

A lot of UFC guys name Bruce Lee as their idol, so does Manny Pacquaio.

Great observation, Jeff. I heard Jon Jones make the same comments about a year and a half ago. To me he has always been one of the very few MMA artist that actual remembers to use TRUE "Marial Arts" instead of just silly wild fist swinging and brawling that has plagued the UFC today. But I guess that is what UFC's Dana White likes to promote. In the end I will take Sifu Lamar's route over Dana White any day of the week and twice on Sunday! happy.gif

Im trying to understand all this hate towards MMA. A lot of these guys are black belts in different arts and carry on the warrior spirit. In fact, most of the better guys in the UFC exemplify the honor and respect gained from training. Guys like Lyoto Machida, GSP, Anderson Silva, and Jon Jones. I disagree with your statement of just silly wild fist swinging. While there are a few out there who seem less technical, MMA right now is elevating techniques and fitness to great levels. Most fighters don't stand a chance unless they have high level wrestling or elite level jiujitsu.

Before this thread goes wild I want to remind people to read the forum rules.

As for MMA those guys are great athletes and most are in great physical shape but they compete in a controlled environment. HJKD isn't worried about controlled environments we are concerned with the realistic aspects of unpredictable life. They train months in advance studying tapes of the techniques of their opponents while on the streets if you are highly skilled you may have 5 minutes to see what type of person you are dealing with.

Controlled environments create fair fights but if the one associates the word "fair" with any street fight then they have already have a disadvantage.

Cant be a paintball champion and think that automatically makes you a great solider, they may have some similarities but this does not make them equal.

Let me elaborate so my statements can be taken properly.
I do respect the dedication of true Martial Artists like:

Jon Jones
Anderson Silva
George St. Pierre
Jose Aldo

My opinion however is there are few of the above mentioned in the UFC and more of the wild brawlers when it comes to the Stand Up part of Mixed Martial Arts game. Having said that I agree 100% with Andrew that we are going away from the rules of this forum and I will stay on a JKD and Wing Chun state of mind. And Jeff I personally don't take any offense to your statements as you were only showing us that some one else who just happended to be highly recognized in the UFC was being complimentary to our art form.

Peace JKD Brothers...
