Chapter Twenty-Six
“If we’re going to work this out then you have to tell her!”
“Not at the moment, too many things are going on and if she finds out then-”
“Then what, all you’re secrets will come out. For god sakes how do you think she’ll feel about being lied to her whole life. How do you think she’ll feel when she finds out that we knew?”
“I know! You don’t think that I’ve thought about this before. Marlena she’s my daughter too! You don’t’ think that I spent every night after the surgery wondering what the hell I’ve done.
What it’s done to her growing up. How she’s had complications. I regret that decision but it’s too late.”
“And what now? If someone finds out and wants revenge on the ISA or even YOU they’ll go after her. Hell someone is going after her right now!”
Hanging his head in shame he knew she was right. She was always right. She was his common sense. Slowly she walked up to him and said in a soft tone,
“John, I know at the time it was the only option. I even agreed to it. But now, it’s taken too much of her life already.”
“I know.”
Looking up into her eyes he knew why he had to fight for her. After finding out that he had lied to her and told her what she wanted to hear at the time
Marlena had left him. He knew what he did was stupid, but as usual he put the ISA first and forgot to think of what any of these circumstances would do to his family. “Hey I have an idea.”
John wrapped his arms around Marlena’s waist while she encircled her arms around his neck. “Why don’t we go back to Salem? That way we can see Brady and Belle.”
“I like the way you think.”
“I don’t always think the right way unless I’m with you.”
Kissing her soundly he knew that the time had come. It was time to explain everything to his baby girl.
Hopefully she didn’t hate him for life.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Her world had pretty much come crashing down in the last five minutes. Thoughts swirled through her head and she had no idea what to make of the news she had just heard.
Sitting in the doctor’s office, the doctor who sat in front of her was holding up an x-ray.
Her lips were moving but Belle had no idea what she was saying.
All the sounds around her had zoned out and everything around her moving in slow motion. Finally she snapped back into reality.
“So would you like to go through with it?”
“Sorry, what?”
“The surgery. In order to remove this we’ll have to do extensive surgery. The risk is pretty much 50/50 since it’s so close to a major artery.
Take you’re time to think about this. It hasn’t done much damage but the longer it’s in there, there’s a bigger risk of an infection happening at any moment.”
“Do you know how it got there?”
“Unless someone surgically implanted it then there’s no other way.” “No doctor before has ever found this.”
“That’s odd. It’s plain as day on the scan.” “I- Um, yeah I’ll go through with it.”
“Are you sure? There are major risks involved. Take a couple days and then get back to me. I want to know that you understand all the risks.”
Getting up Belle left the office and headed towards the elevator in a daze.
So many times she’s been in and out of the hospital her whole life, and finally there was a reason.
Her mind was boggled that this had never come up before and just thinking of the possibilities of how it had gotten in her body.
The man across the hall saw her out of his peripheral vision and turned his head. It was amazing how he could easily pick her out with so many people around.
“Hey mom I’ll be right back.” “Alright honey.”
Making his way over towards he saw that her face was pale and she was a million miles away.
“Are you feeling alright Belle?”
“Hm, oh hey Shawn. Yeah I’m alright.” Giving him a weak smile she tried to hide her real emotions. “So what are you doing here?”
“It’s my brother’s check up and he wanted me to come along.”
“Aw how sweet.”
Wincing at the word he knew she was using it on purpose. The elevator doors opened and Belle got in. “Well catch ya later.”
“Yeah, bye.”
The elevator doors shut and finally she was once again left alone with her thoughts.
It was a month since they’d come back to Salem and a month since she’s heard any news on anything of what was going on. Her thought was no new was good news.
Taking a deep breath she braced herself against the rail in the elevator. Closing her eyes she prayed that which ever decision she made that everything would be alright.
The though of death scared her to the core but really she was prepared for it and had been for a long time.
Growing up and being in the hospital a lot prepared her for the worse and now it was time to face it.
She knew that she’d go with her original decision and really didn’t need to think about it, but who knew in the end what she would choose.
All she knew was now was the time to just live day by day and not make any future plans in her personal life.
