1.Bringing in talent is a good thing but then overrating and overpaying some of it when there are hard limitations is not a good thing.
2.Boobman loses? Paulwinkle gave a 35 year old guy a new 7 year deal that the NHL says will stay on the Flyers cap for every year of it. The Flyers said no and objected. The NHL said yes and they own the game. Last I heard and read that ruling still stands. Why should Holmgren be given credit for that? Did Holmie and his cap / value minions really outwit anybody but themselves?
3. If what you say is true and you know for a fact that the Flyers have people in place whose job is cap & player value in nature, I submit that those people in place have done an amazingly bad job in helping the GM not to look stupid and foolish as he bungles along with the fiscal restrictions set by the rules. Did it ever occur to any of them to check with the league before the new Pronger deal went down? What does this staff do so the GM doesn't look like a fool when he has to sign on college kids to play defense or send a good player to the minors in order to meet the cap limits and do it while keeping Riley 'I like getting my ass beat' Cote on the roster? Whose idea was it to give Lupul a big extension without seeing if he was really worth it? Don't even go to the Randy Jones deal. OOOPS too late
4.The Flyers will lose Jones' 1.5 mil cap hit at year end. Ouch. I know I wouldn't go there if I was trying to defend someone who botched that situation so badly. I wouldn't want to keep it in the public eye that Holmgren and super staff took a cap hit on a guy they wouldn't have to if they were smart. Bury this one quickly.
