The prices I quoted above were for individuals only. Of course we have the option of people getting the family coverage as well, which increases the prices. We're in a unique situation that we don't have anyone that takes the family coverage, so I forgot about it.
Also, I just went back and looked, of the various plans we were offered, the highest priced plan was about $825/emp./month, not $700 as I stated above. That plan had only a $500 annual deductible, no co-pay on office visits, etc. -- all the bells and whistles.
I should mention we are based in Florida. Prices for insurance can vary significantly state by state. Insurance in the US is regulated at the state level and, due to some pretty arcane laws, insurers can not sell insurance across state lines, thereby eliminating a lot of competition within the insurance industry.
