are great candidates for a penalty free buy out, if it is allowed in the new CBA.
I don't buy into all the love for Breezy right now. The guy is making more money than I will ever see, and he has what? strung 4-5 games together, where he is still letting in early goals, he let in the 1st shot of the game, and a third period goal against Detroit. He is playing better, granted, but in my books, he is still not living up to his contract as the highest paid goalie in the league.
I would walk from him in a heart beat. As "good" as some say he has been lately..what are we going to get in the playoffs? The Breezy who showed up against Detroit the last two years? Who coincidently is the same guy we have had all year. I don't trust him, and I see the last few games as a blip, not his game rounding into form.
I would not think twice about freeing up 12 million a year from these two ridiculous contracts. Briere's bad year is actually a good thing, if it forces Holmgren to buy him out. The shutters have got to be removed with these stupid contracts.
Yeah, I know. I really want the penalty free buyout. I would dump a bunch of players if it would not effect our cap in the coming years. I would trade Timonen, buy-out Brezzy and Briere, and suddenly we have almost 20 million freed up.
For what Briere has given us this year, and 3 out of the prior 4, he is still not worth the money he makes. Breezy is stealing from us. Period. If Detroit lit him up with the "defensive system" they run in Phoenix, then what would Pittsburgh do if they get Crosby back with our lack of d?
While never happy to support the team losing, I would accept it if it meant getting the crap out of our system.
