and thank god the Devils shot themselves in the foot.
Richards, Carter, Gagne, Fraser, Williams, Hextall*, Murray, Stevens, Lombardi.....quite a few ex Flyers/ personnel who now have their names on the cup.
Happy for Richards, as I always liked him as a player. His handling of the press/ early captaincy was part his fault, mostly the Flyers.
Happy for Gagne, as he was always a favourite here.
Carter...? he even got a louder applause than some of the other long term Kings.....was surprised by that. Is he viewed as a saviour to the fans? After all, the team did turn it around after he arrived from Columbus.....but any true hockey fan knows that it was the play of Brown that got the team to where they are tonight. He scored 2x tonight, and I was happy to see Brown get the cup winner. Was pulling for Gagne to score the winner, but Brown will suffice.
Did the Flyers screw up, trading Richards and Carter?.......NO...their contracts and positions on the team would have hand cuffed us for the next decade. Sometime you have to give up talent to get talent, and I believe in 2 years, we will be a better team than the Kings...they are going to hate those contracts. Hopefully the new cba will tackle the long term contracts.
The bigger question for Flyer fans is what to do with JVR?
Resigning Jagr for 3 million is a waste of cap space and makes me shake my head in disgust. That money should/ could have been put towards a better solution.
Apparently, Homer wants Carle back too, but the tagging rule is getting in the way. He says he expects the contract with Carle to be completed very quickly in July.....so between Jagr and Carle, we have probably tied up 8 million.....WTF?
