Sbisa is the only notable defenseman we drafted in a long time and he last one season with the team. Not going to rehash my thoughts on our developing defense again, but I did prefer the Couturier pick last season. He had some illness issues that dropped him a bit, but he was going to be a shot at #1 overall. He was a steal that late. Hamilton might be a great defensemen, but Couturier could be a top line center.
We turned Bob into some picks which could develop some players for us. Bob was not going to develop here as a backup. Bryzgalov needs to play a lot to be on top of his game and Bob wasn't at a point in his career where he can be an effective backup once every 8-10 games. We need another Boucher type who can play when needed and also step in should an injury occur. Another season of mediocre backup play and his stock would have been even lower. He was never going to be our franchise goalie and he never may be anything better than an average starter. We got 90 cents on the dollar for him while we can.
