One interesting outcome from the Suter/Parise/Weber deals - the owners want a 5 year contract limit, the players don't. But even the players have to see these deals as being over the top. So it might actually have the result of getting a 7 year limit in the CBA.
And what will the league fallout be? The Preds are in trouble, no matter what. To sign Weber, they have to go deep in debt. With so little revenue, there's no way out of that, as they are barely meeting payroll at the cap floor. If they don't, the team will not be competitive for a while, revenue drops even further, but they still have to reach the floor. Homer might have just bankrupted Nashville. Will there be new rules? Revenue sharing? Dare I say it - CONTRACTION? Will this (and Phoenix) finally make the league realize there are place to NOT put a franchise?
