The league didn't protect Reggie Leach. The league didn't protect Bill Barber. On the contrary, the league was mortified by the Flyers.
Fast forward to today. The league doesn't protect Girioux or the Flyers as evidenced by the weak suspension handed down for the consecutive head shots by Neal.
The league does, however, coddle Malkenstein and Crosby. I don't think anyone is really saying the Flyers don't deserve some of the penalties and suspensions they get. But let's be honest, they do still get a lot tossed at them based on reputation and for being the Flyers. That really is indesputable.
I think what folk would like to see is the league recognize that Thidney isn't an altar boy and if he and Malken are going to play with that edge, then they better expect to "get theirs" when the time comes.
