I countered with that he also said it during the game which certainly wan't pandering to a specific segment of the audience but giving his personal opinion about a star in the league that needs to grow up and not feel an sense of entitlement to the ice and the ability to do whatever he pleases out there with no consequences.
You said Sidney has grown up. Personally, I haven't seen it yet. He still bitches to refs between periods and seems to believe he's untouchable out there.
