Health Insurance

Well since the disability retirement board terminated me I had to find health insurance. What a mess...didn't know how well I had it when they were paying for my meds.

I'm wondering how K-Mart would sell Vicodin for $15? When I got it I had to pay $80 with very good insurance.

I've gone back to the Perocet and I hate it. It helps but like everyone else I don't like being on the heavier drugs. Perocet they say is a Class 2 narcotic and that sounds scary. I couldn't do it without it though so although I too am afraid of addiction I will worry about it when I can think clearly.

I'm doing better than before with this last surgery. It was so hard having to walk with a walker for 6 weeks and no pressure on the left side. I'm hoping and praying to get some sort of normal life back but very grateful for the settlement I got.

I miss you all very much and will try to read up on what's been going on soon. It's hard to sit here when I feel so much better in bed. Did get out Saturday and go to my daughters house....nice and she says I seem to walk better already than before this last surgery.

Love and gentle hugs. Tammy

I believe there is an onlne list of the drugs Walmart, Target and Kmart are selling for $4. I get 120 Vicadon for $10 with my insurance from any place so that is good. But I just picked up anti- bodics and had to pay $40 for 2 weeks worth and now I am on one for high cholestrol (great) and it too is $40 per month. I ask about finding it for less and was told they do that for generic ones so if you could get it in that form you might get a better deal.

Tammy,

So glad to hear that your doing a little better. That's stinks about the insurance.

Wow, though $80 for vicodin. Was that just for a one month supply?

I'm fortunate that my insurance pays for almost all of mine. But Rite Aid, thats where I get my scripts filled lists the total price on my paperwork and they only charge $40 for 120 pills.

It's outrageous how the pharmacy's can basically charge whatever they feel like.

Tammy,
I thought that you were going to be able to appeal your case to the retirement board. Did your Doctor send them the information they needed? Maybe I am confussed about this.

I did appeal but it will take about three months so in the mean time they cancelled my insurance and money.

Vicodin has no generic so that's why it cost me so much. The $80 was for three months at 4 pills a day. The Perocet I'm taking cost $15 because I get the generic but it's a big difference with the new insurance. It's going to be $50 for one month and they limit how many the doctor can say you can have a day.

The new insurance I've gotten covers pre-exiting and does have mail in for the three months but then it comes from Canada and I'm not sure I feel comfortable with that.

They get us coming and going no matter how hard we try.

The only thing I need to do now is apply for SSI and see if I can also get some sort of Health insurance coverage.

In November I can take my retirement so I'll hopefully be ok but until then I have to really watch my money.

I don't know how those of you who haven't gotten a good settlement make it.

I am feeling very well so far and each day seems to be better than the day before. I am watching to not over do and make sure this fusion takes.

Love and gentle hugs, Tammy

CAA is right

January 9 2007, 4:43 PM

there is generic for Vicodin and much cheaper-however if you go with the generic hydrocodone, it mixed with tylenol or you you take vicoprofen, it's mixed w/ibuprofen and can mess up your stomach.

If you're taking the brand name Vicodin, it's better than the generic in that it's not diluted w/ibuprofen, tylenol.
I've been on the hydrocodone bcz my ins won't pay for the name brand unless none is offered. Plus vicodin is high.

Tammy, I'm so glad you're recovering well, I know it takes a long time and I remember I was so sick of looking at my bedroom wall, I thought I'd go nuts, lol. I'm down to using my walker again bcz my hips are pretty bad. Sure wish I took it with me today to the pharmacy. Get well soon. We miss you girl.

Donna - my Dad's hip got bad fast. At first they thought it was his leg or something and gave him a lift but it never helped. He tried to go horseback riding in Mexico and couldn't lift his leg to get on! This was new and when they got back he saw a specialist.

He got a new platinum hip and the Doctor said it was filled with more spurs than he had seen in 23 years! He was young for this and so they didn't jump right onto the hip needing to be replaced.

This was 6 months ago and he has been playing handball 3 times a week like he was before it happened. He is so much better and as active as ever.

My Mom thought he was faking it to skip the horse ridding LOL

We pay out over $1,000 per month - out of pocket in order to keep our insurance! That along with my DH losing his job (which provided the insurance) all because of the MVA! We are maxing out all of our cards and had to get another one - it is terrible. We HAVE to count on the other side paying us back from both the lost wages and the insurance payments!

Sure wish this was all over with!

Autumn,
When was your MVA? Do you have a lawyer? Are you still on DH insurance?
Or have they droped him? Sorry if I am asking you questions you have all ready answered. I missed a lot of post there for awhile.

We were hit almost a year ago.

We are on the same insurance we have been on for the entire time he worked there but now we have to pay it ourselves. It is actually under the retirees section - which was made available to us 2 months after the accident when the quarter ended. He was not able to teach the rest of that quarter but everything was paid. Once the next quarter came up and the Doctor wrote another note, we were moved to the retirees option.

He had moved from full time to part just a year earlier which was great for us until the MVA because since he was part time, the coverage stopped the very next quarter and now, they have of course hired someone else.

We do not have a lawyer - one main reason is what I just wrote about. We have a year of loss income (really a whole job) and a year of insurance payments. The two add up to quite a lot of money and we can't afford to give up 1/3 of that to a lawyer BEFORE they do one single thing! We are maxing out on cards and the insurance payments are coming out of our pockets and we really need it all back.

We don't know how it will all fall and we may have to end up getting one in the long run. I would like to believe it will work out but sadly, we just got a new adjuster and he may not be as coropative as the one we were dealing with. He wants bank records and tax papers which I assume is as a proof we are paying for the insurance at that amount, instead of just believing us LOL As if we grabbed a less expensive insurance and only saying we are paying the higher amount! We are hoping to settle our cases seperatly and one of the in the next few months as we need to get things somewhat back on solid footing. If only we were at least somewhat healed!!!

Your so sweet Red and thank you.

Yes I'm doing so much better. I'm having problems with keeping myself from doing things I know I shouldn't though.

God willing I will be left feeling almost as good as new but if not I pray it will be a pain I can endure without the meds.

Love you Red. Tammy

Dang I just love that name My niece who is a lawyer has this name all so!
She is Autumn Blaze and I just love it.
Autumn we were asked for are S.S.# by the other lawyer. I ask my hubby why we had to give it to him after we left the meeting with the lawyers.
And he said it was for them to do a credit check on us! Dang now doesn't that beat all. What did they hope to find?? I just do not understand any of it. Does this mean my lawyer did a credit check on the couple that hit me?? Can I see it? What would my credit rating have to do with them hitting me?? I mean would it better if we owed everyone?
Will it go against me because we have always worked hard and payed everything off. We have no payments except for the medical that I have racked up. I am just so confused
