| OMG,, the worker I had was a meanie!
Got a few surprises,, one, I don't have to go in for medical eval - not sure why. The worker said no date was noted and that surprised her too. Normally, re-eval are every 3 years (i think), or every 7 years, depending on whether there's a chance of improvement or no chance. I thought I am up for it in 7 years (2009), but the date was not noted.
If i had to compare it to the interview I had in 2002, the last person was super nice, but today, the worker I had was a meanie! It was almost as if she doubted my disablities. So what if she doubts me. I won't let my disablity get in my way.
All is done, I'm due for a nice "raise" in June....

Some people are just so rude.
I'm so glad that everything worked out well for you though. |

Thank you Tspauld.
Not quite, there's still a matter of medicare/medicaid. You see, once SSA change the program, I will lose my medicaid and if I want to keep it, there will be hefty spend-down to worry about.
My vocatinal rehab counselor is looking into it because SSA worker told me that I can't get Medicare for 2 years! Information she has says something else! There's a little known program that allows you to get Medicare without the 2 years wait, but I don't have details.
Another option we can look into, Healthcare for Disabled Worker (HDW) through Medicaid, but there's a catch, I need a job! Worker pays premium into it (up to 7.5% of income),, if your total income (from both wages and SSA) totals 2,000, the premium is 150 dollars. That's alot cheaper than 300 some dollars if i am stuck with spend-down program.
Butttttttttttttttttttttt,,, who wants to hire the disabled? People keep saying discrimination is illegal, but those of us who is disabled KNOW it is still out there..... Very tough to prove but we have gut feelings.
All I can do right now, hope and pray that I can still keep my Medicaid, get a job for HDW, or get on expendited Medicare program.

Lee, this is my first post. I'm interested in knowing more about Disability benefits since it looks like you were approved.
I applied in Oct and just had the "Special Eval". Has anyone received benefits for a soft tissue whiplash injury. Mine happened 7-yrs ago and I've gone through 75 Dr visits including 2 RF's with no success.
What does it take.

Bo, I was approved because I have another qualifying disalbity other than whiplash associated disorders. I used that disablity so that I could recieve benefit.
I know there are several people on this board who is trying to get benefit from SSA. I don't want to discourage you, but I can't remember anyone getting benefit based on soft tissue whiplash injury alone. Anyone??
You asked about disability benefits. Through SSA, there are 2 programs. SSI is resource based (very low income) and SSDI is work history based (no resource limit). Both have rules if you go back to work. For example, for SSDI, you can'be be earning more than $640 prior to acceptance. Once on it, if you earn more than that, you go on 9 months trial period, in which you can still get your full check and work. For SSI, the rule is FAR more stricter, you can't have ANY income at all to qualify and you can't have so much in resources. Like SSDI, you can work, but your check is reduced based on how much you earned.
Two years after my accident, I wanted to apply based on my whiplash, but the worker told me it's very hard to be approved for this and suggested that I use another disablity. For that reason, I was quickly approved for SSI in 2002, 2 months after I applied. Fast forward to 2007, I became of age that I can qualify under my late husband's earning history. They are changing me to Widow's (part of SSDI program) and this means I will be getting more money than SSI, and more work intentive.
I suspected that I did not have to have an evuatlion at this time was that I was already on SSI and wasn't suppose to have a review until 2009.

Sorry you had to meet up with a rude (ignorant) person..almost makes you wish they knew for one day what you lived through. Oh, well. Sometimes I wonder, "why do these people look for jobs where they'll deal with human beings" duh! They could go get a job in a back room somewhere crunching numbers; makes me think of Jack Nicholson's charactor, Melvin in "As Good as it Get's" he's so rude and thoughtless... : (
Blessings,
