| Recently my doctor changed my med because I never was able to handle vicodin. I would take it only if I must (when pain level was at 8 or so). She precribed tramadol and it was WORSE than vicodin!
Today, she finally told me,, I'M ALLERGIC! Apparently to both meds.
I was thinking to myself,, OMG,, all those years I had to weigh myself as I decide to take vicodin or not and I had to find out about the allergy 7 years too late!
She is referring me to pain specialist again. Oh what fun - going through all this again!

I knew from years ago that I am allergic to codeine. Vicodin and tramadol don't have it, but have something similar to it. It is our guess, i am touchy to anything that can be similar to codiene.
Trust me, I asked about it years ago, but doctor said it wouldn't because it's not same thing....... But now with tramadol, we know better!

Sorry to hear that you're allergic to those medications. It really is a scary thing, not to find that out after so many years. I remember one of my doctors telling me that A LOT of people are very sensitive to Tramadol. Luckily I can take it and I get some relief for my nerve pain, but not for my neck, and my body tolerates it well. I have never had side effects from it. I had a nerve block done about a year ago and I had the worst side effects from the steroid. I could not stand up on my own for the entire night afterward, I was sick to my stomach for a week, and was hallucinating (seeing things flying around) for 2 weeks. I called the doctor several times asking him what the heck was going on, and all they told me was "your body is trying its hardest to push it out of your system. Your symptoms should go away soon"!! LOL, I was like, great. Eventually they went away, but what a scary experience. Too bad it's trial and error to figure out what works.
I hope you find a medication that works well and you the pain clinic figures something out.
Have a safe and happy Easter weekend,
