Wow, the temps have finally dropped here. Right back don into the 70's where they belong. We've got a beutiful Canadian breeze blowing for now anyway.

I'm tired today. I pushed myself yesterday. Hubby and I took all four of the kids up and picked a couple of flats of fresh strawberries. Mmmmm, they taste really good this year. LOL

So today I worked and made up a batch of strawberry jam and a batch of strawberry rhubarb jam. I've got to pick up some more Certo tomorrow so I can get at least another 16 jars made up. I try to can enough to last for the year. And hopefully we'll be able to go back up and pick another flat or two for freezing. I'm gonna pay for doing all of this at once, but I don't care its so worth it. And it was funny watching the kids eat more than they were picking. I'm glad the farm didn't weigh them on the way in and on the way out. Gosh we'd go bankrupt. LOL

I went to a srawberry farm yesterday but I did not pick or buy strawberries. I bought 10 lbs. of fresh peas.I hope I can buy another 10 lbs. at least by Tues.(my son and I eat peas fresh out of the pod). I would never be able to pick peas or strawbberries. So I pay more.

We buy 2 flats - one for freezer jam and the other for eating!! I freeze a couple of boxes but we make a couple of pies, have strawberry milkshakes, strawberry shortcake - all the yummy fresh strawberry treats!

I know what you mean about them eating more than they pick - at least they aren't hungry for a few hours LOL

We grow a few rows of peas JUST for munching fresh! We call that area the kids garden because we always plant things they can plant, care for and then eat without getting into the main garden areas. They have peas, cherry tomatoes, carrots etc. - they take pride in growing thngs and they LOVE to have Grandparents and other relatives over and prepare a salad all from the garden!

We have some raspberries - and every year I wait and wait for the first nes for my cereal! Such a sweet treat - and we've had enough for two mornings already!

I have never canned - is it as hard as I am assuming? We use our seal a meal and freeze a lot but would love to try to can - especially peaches! And we put n 15 tomatoe plants this year!!!

Oh my gosh Sky, canning is simple, simple.

Peaches, tomato's and jams are the easiest to do.

Its more time consuming setting up than anything else. And messy. Well at least I'm messy.

Strawberry jam was the first thing that I had ever canned. Certo wich is a liquid pectin, you can buy it in the grocery store, has the recipe right inside the box. You just need to pick up canning jars and remember to get new lids every year.

My Gran gave me five cases of canning jars yesterday - what timming LOL I will go buy the cetro (sp) and TRY it! Oh and the lids - she explained that too LOL You two know because you have done it so it is great to hear from two different sources that I can actually do it!

I always had in my mind a vision of all these special pans and equipment! Not sure where that image came from LOL

It is going to get hot here for the 4th and even hotter on the fifth so all the berries will be popping -- yeaaaaa
