Got my new MRI results

Ok, I'm really confused.

I had the lower back MRI done last Friday night. Anyway my PCP just called. He said as far as the discs, everything looks ok. No herniations. He didn't mention about any bulges, so I'm not sure about that yet. I'm going to pick up a copy of the report. I did already get a copy of the MRI itself on disc Saturday morning but it means nothing to me. Just a bunch of black and white blobs. He said he was going to fax it all over to the pain clinic for me. Wich works out well because I havbe an appointment tomorrow for the left side cervical ablations. Anyway he did say the MRI showed massive amounts of arthritis in my entire lower back.

Now how in the heck did I get arthritis there? And for crying out loud I'm only 35. I'm havibg a hard time walking now. Whats gonna happen in 5 years?

Use this to get more testing

Geez T.........hmmm...."massive amounts of arthritis"? What a stupid thing for a doctor to say. (does he mean massive for a person of your tender age or massive with respect to how bad arthritis can possibly get?)

If you do have an appreciable amount of arthritis in your lower back, then this has happened over a lengthy period, although I readily agree that trauma has undoubtedly worsened whatever was there.

The point is that prior to the accident, even with arthritis, you had NO pain and NO difficulty walking. So don't let them point at the arthritis as the cause for the pain or difficulty walking.

This is almost a great reason to insist on MRI's for your SI joint and hip because after all if your back is Soooo bad then what are the other areas like? Maybe the doc at the pain clinic will order a spect scan to check on those areas?

I hope your ablations go great tomorrow!! Don't forget the ice and make sure you bring "wipies" to mop up any dye.

Trauma can cause or make arthritis worse,on MRIs they show up as bone spurs and end plate changes if the arthritis is already bad probably what ever happened has already happened so it may not get worse. Also both my husband and myself found it easier to move around once the cervical areas were treated so good luck

LOL Red,

SO true. They scored that point with that MRI. But I'm laughing my butt off now. The pain doc couldn't understand why my PCP ordeered the MRI, so he sent me in for a SPECT scan this past Monday. Anyway when I went it to see my PCP on Thursday he asked me what the pain doc was doing, so I told him that he ordered the SPECT because afterall the MRI was fairly useless. And my PCP was upset because he didn't recieve a copy of the scan. So I asked him why he thought he would get a copy when he wasn't the one that ordered it. LOL Needless to say he wasn't pleased at all.

So I guess I got my 2 points back. LOL
