What am I looking at realistically?

I was in an accident today. I am definitely blessed that I am not seriously hurt or dead. Basically got rear ended at a high rate of speed, the pain from the impact is now starting to effect me. Missed most of the day at doctors office. I do not know how severe this will be, but I am going to hire an attorney because I am dealing with the City of Phoenix (a shuttle hit me). Will I at least get my car fixed and medical and time off work paid for? Thaks for the input.

Sorry to hear of your accident. Good news, most people recovers from accident, even high speed impact. About 10% of poeple do not recover after 2 years.

I wouldn't get an attorney this early yet. You can file a claim against the city and go from it. If you can't get what you want/need, then think about an attorney. Filing a claim against city is no different than filing against other party's insurnace. I know this becuase I once filed a claim against City of Tacoma becuae of damages on my car,,, beleive it or not,, they paid for damages caused by my own dog! It's a long story but basically, the city admitted wrong when a worker (contracted by city) refused entry of a public building with my service dog when I graduated from college. My daughter, not wanting to miss it, decided to leave dog in car instaed of missing it.. BAD MISTAKE,, dog panicked and "ate" my car.. therefore, city paid for damages in full - over 1,300 dollars.

My advice,, FILE with city first,, see what happens and if it fails, then think about attorney.

As for your queston about injury expection. There's no right or wrong answer. Everyone is different. My attorney once reminded me that you can die from a simple low-speed bump, yet you can walk away without a scratch from a smokey heap of metal. Something about "broken eggs" theory.

Follow through with your recovery plan estiblished by your doc is my best advice that I can give you.

Hi Bojarner

Sorry to have to meet you under these circumstances but glad you found us. Usually within a couple days most people start feeling pain in the neck area. Over time, it may get better; however, if it doesn't, make sure you see a pain management specialist. He will help you with your pain much more than your primary doctor bcz primaries don't like to give your pain meds.

Also, start your diary and write in it often. Put down the date every time you see a doctor or go for an xray or any procedure. If you go for a dr appt and they give you meds or change your meds, write that down. Also-and this is VERY important-write down your feelings. If you are scared and feel alone in all you're going thru, write it down, if you're having an especially hard pain day, write it down. Document, document, document everything. It's so important for you to be able to go back and reference a date of a dr appt or the date you had your mri. Your memory will get difficult and you will forget things-it's part of the injury and pain meds combined. We call it "brain fog."

Anyway if you need any other questions answered, let us know.

peace & love,
donna
