Hi, my friends and family call me Red{nickname} I was walking, I was a pedestrian hit by a car October 20th,2000.I am in alot of pain and I only seem to get worse as each day goes by. My injuries cause pain in my neck, shoulders , upper and lower back, legs feet and left arm. I also have cramping and tightness under my left rib cage. I also get many charlie horses in my upper and lower thighs.x-rays showed a lot of bruising and swelling, mainly soft tissue damage. To look at me I look fine to others, though my body tells me very differently! I tire quickly, and tylenol 3 for pain does not cut it! I am also experiencing alot of gas pain , belching loud burbs or at times I cant and I bloat in the stomach area! I have been through many of tests such as ultra sound for liver, pancreas, gall bladder and bile duct.I have also had a stomach x-ray. I have had numerous x-rays, blood work doc appt.'s and physio and massage which ceased 8 weeks later, My stomach problems ,started after the physio stopped, which I am to do at home, It has been approx. 4 weeks with no physio and I am worse than ever before. I have a follow up appt with my doc on april 10th 2001. The woman who hit was charged with failing to give the right away to a pedestrian,go figure ,I was three quarters across the road when she made a left hand turn. I have never been in an accident in my life , till now, I am 43 years of age and I feel 80. I have read a majority of the posts and I know your pain! My question to you? How do I make this sight easy to access? I do not have a lawyer at this point, I am from Niagara Falls Canada, married with 2 kids. Did not mean to ramble on . I was so happy to find you all. I could not believe the support and knowledge in this group of Bess and friends, and hope you will have me to ? Thanks for listening and take care. sincerely Red

HI!

April 9 2001, 10:28 AM

Hi Red, I am SOOO glad you found us! First of all, let me tell you that I can speak for everyone on this board when I say that we are truly glad you found us! We welcome anyone & everyone to post here. You see, we used to post at another place until the site closed down... then Bess found this site for us & the only problem is that hardly no one "new" seems to be able to find us. We would like more people here so it is GREAT that you 'stunbled upon us'...lol Maybe you could tell us how you did find this board? (We wish more people would!) We arn't here to make any money; it's just that we all have a lot of time on our hands & it brings a feeling of satisfaction to be able to help others with all that we have learned. Also, I'm sure since you read thru the posts, that it is great to have so much support from others who are also suffering chronic pain (Most from car accidents that were, like yours, caused from careless drivers) I have to tell you, between pain, stress & probly the meds I'm on, my memory is bad...(or at least I have an excuse for it now...lol!) You said you were 43. It seems like almost everyone on this board is right around the same age. I recently just turned 40 myself. I was in 2 car accidents last year, one in March & again in April. (not a good year!) Neither accident was my fault. To make it short, both times I was at a stop & was hit...(one at a red light & the 2nd. time I was stopped in the middle of the road because I saw a delivery truck driving backwards down the road at me!) Talk about Ramble... we all are very good at that...lol So don't EVER be afraid to 'ramble'!

I just wanted to give you a bit of info about us all here & share why I am here. It might help us to know if you are on any other meds besides the T#3. I used to have a lot of trouble with pain in my legs. There was nothing (not even pain killers) that would help the pain. Then finally I got some relief! I was put on a pill called "Neurotin". Ever here of it? It has helped a lot with the leg pains. As far as neck & back pain, there are so many different ways that you can be treated for that. I'm sorry, I forget what else you mentioned. I do know you said that after stopping the phyiso 4 weeks ago that you feel as if you're going down hill. I'm not sure what to say about that, just that I am sorry to hear that & that we ALL can relate to your daily pain! I'm sure you have seen a lot of posts to Dr David. Don't be afraid to ask him ANY question you might have. He has been a wealth of information to us & as you can se, he answeres all questins. OK Red, now you see that I too can ramble right along with the best of them...lol

I am very happy that you did find us & can't wait to get to know you better!

We may not have all the answeres but, we have so much understanding! I honestly think I would of gone crazy without all the support I've found thru these wonderful people! Red, WELCOME TO OUR 'FAMILY'! ***Tender Hugs my new friend***, Karen

Sorry.....

April 9 2001, 11:13 AM

I read your post again & saw that I didn't even answer your question...lol Sorry! There are a couple ways to make this easy to access. Here's what I did... I clicked "File", went down to "send" & clicked on "Shortcut to desktop". That way, there's an icon on my desktop that says 'network 54' & all I do is click on it to come here (That is, once you're connected to the internet) Also, you can just mark it by hitting 'favorites' & saving it to your favorites. Then the next time, just click favorites & scroll down to it & click on it. It will get you right here. Karen

otinHi,
I t sure makes it easier to talk to people when you know we all share chronic pain. I can not imagine being hit within a month apart. I am so sorry to hear of your accidents. I will check into "neurotin" with my doc. leg pain
I was surfing the web under Personal Injury and then came across web sights on Whiplash and it brought me to Bess's site on head gear for comfort of the neck.
thanks for listening Karen, take care .

Hi Red,
Welcome to the board..you will find alot of support here and people who will make you smile and touch your heart. I was also hit by a car as a pedestrian crossing the street, in Nov.1999, and I know exactly what you are going through, because I am going through the same thing. It has not been easy. The best part of this board is knowing that you are not alone and the many friends you will find here will help you, listen to you, offer suggestions and most importantly, just letting you know that you are not alone. Welcome!!!!!!!

Hey Red-Welcome to our humble family. We are here basically to offer support for one another. It's all so maddening what we have to go through to try and get better.

My mva was Nov 00, hit from behind while stopped for car turning in front of me. Been to GP's, PT's, Pain Mgmt Specialist, and neuro and still searching for that miracle cure. I, too am on Neurontin for nerve pain in neck, shoulders, left arm. Also on Vioxx (anti-inflamatory), Ultram & Darvocet (for pain), Elavil (to help me sleep). Tried Vicadin (had bad reaction to that-whew now that's some powerful sh--), LOL. I still work, god help me, it's tough, but I need to get up and go to work everyday to keep some normalcy to all that's happened. Tried selective nerve root injections and going to schedule selective nerve root block soon's I can get the time (and the nerve to have it done). I'm a whimp when it comes to pain. I've only been suffering pain for 5 months. Some of the veterans here have been going thru this for years, including my sis, Judi, who posts here also. But, if there's any questions I can help you with, I'd be glad to let you in on what I know. Feel free to email me anytime.

By the way, to email someone, if you click on their name on the main message board posts, (if there's a line under their name) you can get email addys.
God, I'm rambling too. Sorry. Hope you're feeling better, Red. Take care and come back and let us know how you're doing. (By the way, as you've probably noticed, we do intend to vent, here, also. Especially if we have had an exceptionally bad day, so feel free to do so also).

Hi Hangten

Thanks for listening, The support on this board has me lost for words, I only hope all the best to you and members on this board! As for being a whimp, the pain does that to us.When I read the other messages, I felt like I had nothing to complain about as there are far more worse cases than my own. Though pain is pain. which we all have in common and only hope that someday there is a cure!
Thanks Hangten
take care

Hi and welcom to the family. I just can't imagin being hit the way you were. Most of us at least had metal between us and the other car. From what I read I don't think that your pain is any less than what the rest of us deal with. As you said, pain is pain and we are all happy that you found us.
