This is very important to all of us that fish Holiday Park!!! Broward County is doing a study to determine if they want to take over and run Holiday Park. If they do, and they run it like all other county Parks, it will only be open from daylight to dark. So if you are concerned, here's what to do. Take the time to write and call the Broward County Commission and Mayor and tell them that you oppose the County taking over the Park. the Mayor's phone number is Josephus Eggelletion, Jr. 954-357-7009. He attended SAFER's first Tournament and spoke in favor of the canals and the fishermen. Let's get him on our side. for a list of your commissioner's go to www.browardcounty.org There will be public meetings on this subject, I'll let you know when they're announced.

docs. ?

Is there any documentation to read on this or is it all hear-say at this time? Just curious as to what is all their intentions besides just closing it at night??? I only use HP for tourneys because I live down south and put in off the trail (41) most of the time but will support any efforts to keep it going into the hands of Broward if need be.

Holiday

May 8 2007, 9:20 AM

This is not heresay, the County has hire a firm to do a study on the fesability of taking over the Park. I believe the County owns the land, and has had some issues with Mr. Bridges (he has a lease on the park)n This is complicated as the County owns the land, leases it to FWC who subleases it to Mr. Bridges. I do know that all our County Parks are operated on a dawn to dusk basis, and that isn't good for the fishermen that use Holiday Park.

Re: Holiday

If the county would leave the hours alone I'm all for someone else running the place. The employees are rude and the bathrooms are from the 1960's. The back looks like a junk yard and I can't believe the county likes people calling the park home.

While that is one way to look at it.....on another note, look at whathappened to Lox, now there is nothing out there and it is still closed from dusk to dawn.

Not to mention, Holiday is free to use, as a park it won't be.

Park

May 8 2007, 12:10 PM

You can bet that the County will not keep the park open 24 hrs!!! It's not a perfect world, but having the park open 24hrs is a must. Please call the County commissioners, and the Mayor. Attend the public meetings and be heard. thanks

Re: Park

There are many saltwater ramps that are open 24/7, many are called parks. I agree we don't want holiday to turn into lox.

I know that, which is still Government and prone to cuts. It would be easy to put a lock at the gate.

Not to change the subject but what is with Sawgrass closing the gate at dark now. Fished there alot last year and they did not close it.

And for those that don't know they fixed the ramp out at Sawgrass rec park too.

Ramps at the Holy lands , fixing the ramps at sawgrass sounds to me they want us all to have plenty of places to fish when they fill in Holiday park with dirt ! drove down the turnpike just south of mcnab and they filled in the whole east side canal with dirt killing every living thing there ...sucks plain out sucks.

Its about time they fixed the Sawgrass ramp. I was terrible in 1972 when I moved to Broward and has just gotten worse ove the years. I figures as soon as I move away from Broward they fix it. Thats the way my luck goes. LOL

Sawgrass

give thanks to the FWC for staying on top of this issue and getting the ramp done. We are working on getting the ramp at L-67 and US 41 done next. This is a very slow process. Rick Persson, SAFER

Boat Ramp

May 9 2007, 9:07 PM

Oakland park blvd about a mile east of 441 on the south side is a concrete ramp . It's pretty beat up. Launch there and travel east in the c13 for about a 1/4 mile and there used to be a canal on the north side to get into the Inverarry canal and lakes.
