2 of us fished the East/West canal..east of the ramps. Very windy..didnt use the trolling motor most of the time.
Fished from 5 to 8 pm..Fire tiger rattletrap and white 5 inch Senko wacky rigged took a 7 lbr.. and 2 over 5 lb..and a bunch of smaller bass and a 8 lb mudfish. Also caught a white crappie on the rattletrap.
Had another excellent weekend as well at Lox. Yesterday Megabasist had a personal best day with an 8, a 7, two 6s, and 4 others over 4.5 pounds, plus an alligator. He caught the 8 and 7 lbers on consecutive casts. I had 3 5lbers and numerous assorted smaller fish, all in the north secret spot. The wind makes everything good in the canal, crank baits are the way to go, don't waste your time throwing anything else.
The north main canal has no problems with water depth, it is at least 7 feet deep. We are targeting large depth changes in the main canal. As you can see below, the big fish are everywhere and can be caught numerous ways. We talked to a boat pulling out as we were going in and he said that between the two of them they had almost 40 lbs in the morning, 5 fish limit, of course that could be an exaggeration.
Would have to diagree with my good friends meagabasist and big injunin the frog bite was crazy. Caught 6 over 5lbs and couldn't keep count of the 2-3lbers. Had one fish couldn't tell you how big but when it lunged at the frog it was by far the biggest fish I have ever seen out there. I have been fishing there for 30 some years. Like was said in the earlier posts be careful water is low stay in the middle of the canals big rocks on the sides. I was fishing just south of the boynton ramp in the canal wind was definitely a good thing. Fish were real agressive liked the frog moving fast wouldn't eat fished slow.
