Came over from Ft. Myers and got to the ramp about 8:30 and it was already a bit "breezy". We started off with a 3lber but things were then slow for the next couple of hours. Changed areas and it was lights out. Caught over 30 solid fish and between 40-50 including the small guys. Best 5 at 20lbs, even with losing a 7lber near the boat due to a split ring ripping off a bait, first time I've ever had that happen! Only my 6th trip to the park so pretty happy with the results. Getting better each time. Fish were caught on a variety of baits but we couldn't get anything going at all on topwater and only a few small to average fish flipping.

Other than a few "hot shots" who can't waive or say hi, traffic was not as bad as we expected for a holiday weekend and it was a great day to be out on the water in the howling wind!

Nice bag of fish....
Headed down yesterday also with my neighbor and his boat. Gave him a quick rundown on canal operating etiquite. My apologies to all...LOL...
I was trying to catch a peacock with a Rapala having fished a couple times there lately. Largies wouldn't leave it alone along with a decent 4lbr. Neighbor was doing ok catching his share of average fish, but his co-worker in the back with me was struggling it being only his second time bass fishing. Gave him a spinning outfit and a couple bags of flukes and he was in heaven.
Only saw one other boat the whole day, except while heading in, which was a good thing...

Well, hadn’t thought about it til you mentioned it, but I threw the first good one in the livewell cause I wanted to get a photo, but the bite had just turned on real good so I didn’t want to take time to break out the camera, etc. right at that moment. Caught another good one, then got caught up in the excitement of the great bite, threw her in the well and eventually figured I’d just see what our best 5 would weigh.
Due to the fact that I am used to just releasing most of my fish combined with looking at so many tourney photos with multiple fish being held up that I hadn’t even realized I shouldn’t have 5 fish that size without a tourney permit. Only had them for a few hours and they were in a huge livewell with plenty of room and a calm off-plane boat almost the whole time, but I still should have taken a photo of each individually.
Glad you called me out on it, I’ll make sure next time to just get a photo of each fish and release them like I usually do…………
