WOW!!! What a great turnout last night!!! This is what we need at all the public meetings, Especially when the COE starts their meetings on the Everglades Plan. Without the canals, there will be no Holiday Park!!! Thanks for a great show, I think we overwhelmed them.
The meeting last night was crazy, I think around 300 people showed and they were voicing out, but unfortuniatly they were preaching to the consulting company everyone needs to get involved at all the meetings that actually have people from the county, we need to make a huge impact, we need to get the media involved.
I am going to try to get in touch with people from the news and we need to support SAFER like never before.
I think we made them understand our message to leave the glades alone!
Next meeting I think we need to show up with a few thousand that would really shake things up!
We definately rattle some cages and woke them up to the idea that we are not just going to let them take our canals and take over the park!
I went to the Broward County Parks site, found Holiday Park and the place for public comment. I would recommend that everyone go to this site and put in their comments, that way there will be a record of it. I did that this morning.
The website is http://www.broward.org/parks/parklist.htm
Scroll down to Holiday Park, click and then scroll down to bottom of page, click on Dickie Consulting and enter comments.
I emailed every commisioner in Broward county, you can do the same at www.broward.org/countygov.htm.
Let flood them with emails, they will have to start to listen and understand that they have awakened a GIANT group of people.
ROY
...thanks for the link, I just finished e-mailing the
consulting firm and had already filled out a survey form and
a detailed description of what should not be done at the park...
I will start and send a message to the message board of the Bass clubs.
It wont be much...just an appeal for help after I explain what the county is planning.
The response I recieved was that this was'nt going to be a factor for 3-5yrs. And as far as he knows Hours of operation have'nt been brought up as a concern. He stated that they hired a firm ( who we know now ) to do the reserch and give pointers. Thats basically the entire response.
To Whom it may concern:
Dear Sirs, I would like to give you my 2 cents worth, I have been fishing at holiday park for over 30 years. To be honest with you I am in favor of either Broward County or the State of Fla. to take charge of this park, truly its a mess. You as a consulting firm need to realize what the park is primarily used for. I think you should keep in mind the 24 hour use of the park to boaters and air boaters also, what I am getting to is if you should #1. Have 2 gates one for the boat ramps and one for the camping area. The gate for the boat ramp will only be accessed during normal park hours thru a manned gate charging for 24 hour use, Also with an option to purchase a yearly pass for the gate entrance. The gate should be only manned during normal operating hours. {sun up to sun down} But the gate should be equipped with a matrix swiping devise that records all movements in and out, and with video recording surveillance. This will allow the people that go duck hunting at 3 am in the morning access and for the air boaters that have hunting camps access to the ramp and parking of the trailers 24 hours a day. The yearly Pass should cost at a minimum of $150.00 not a bad cost for the security and the 24 hour use of the ramp areas. With that yearly card you just swipe the matrix box and the gate opens also you must display a valid yearly parking pass so you don't get finned or maybe towed away, if the vehicle is left for more than a set amount of reasonable time. The cost for entrance to the park ramp area on a daily bases for a single 24 hour stay, should be around $10.00 a day. This may include use of a fishing pier that you can construct for people that want to fish that don't have a boat, like the dock that is benign use now. This is just my ideas that I have if you want me to help with the research on this Park venture I would be glad to.
On a different Note; Limit the Bass tournaments to only Off Spawning Season.{ to be determined by the FWC Dept. Biologist} and to a maximum of one tournament per a month. To many fish are benign displaced by the local Bass Tournaments.
Lets talk about the Camping side of the park, This is not a park that you would consider hiking or trail walking it is surrounded by Water Management Levels that people should not be traveling on, unless the Water management and the Game Commission give the approval. This Park is Surrounded by a State Management Area that have access during hunting season only, so I propose that maybe with the Water management and the Game Commission permission that biking on the levels and walking would be allowed on off hunting days. Just an idea to make the Park more attractive to family use.
Now lets talk about the Gate Access, Also a manned gate could be the same gate?? with the same options of the water ramp area. Daily entrance and camping should be applied.
Also if you are camping the use of the fishing pier and the boat ramp should be included.
No full time live in the park, Like they have now.
The County should have a guest reception area like a hotel checkin, for campers and tent camping.
included in this building should be a store and bait shop, Similar to the operation that holiday park has now.
I truly believe that the air bout rides make lots of money, so you would have to consider that option, my option on this is to get rid of that because the enormous amount of maintenance required to keep the boats running and the liability of the air boat captains will put the county at risk.
I think we should keep it simple and try to accommodate the majority of the people that use the park and make it a show case for Broward County as a Tourist Mecca that we can be proud of. Providing a safe, clean and clutter free environment for the citizens and visitors of Broward to enjoy the everglades forever.
