Hey Castoff, Has there been any discussion on how macks fish camp is going to be affected by the resoration project. That water has been dead down there for decades.
We were talking with COE about breaching the levee just North of L67 C canal to gain access to the Little L from the North end. this is due to the fact that we will lose the acess from the South end when they build the test site in the Little L. DEP land the COE are against this due to the fact that they don't want what they call dirty water entering that far North in the WCA 3B. The breach in the levee that they will make in the L-67 A canal into WCA 3B is further South and has that much more land to cover and filter so they say.
My Brother-in -law and I fished there last weekend and had a record setting day. He and I together boated 11 fish over 5 pounds in just under 4 hours. This kind of catch at Mack's is nothing outrageous for me as I fish there at least once a month, but my bass fishing Brother-in-law from Georgia could not beleive his eyes. Our biggest of the day were a pair of 9 pounders he caught almost back to back on a gambler jiggy head. He almost had a heart attack and fell out of the boat. My biggest out there was 14lbs 2 oz., taken last may.
I have caught many fish in the ten pound range. I fish only gambler baits, and have caught big fish there on every color and style.
Whoever said Mack's fish camp was dead is lying or not a very good fisherman. This place has had great fishing for years. Get with it .
Hey 150viper thats a great report. I have fished there too. Have you fished right hand canal lately? I haven't been out there in a long time. Hows Macks grand boys doing? I grew up with there Mom. Have you been to the glory hole, is it still there? When you caught those big bass did you catch them in left hand canal or the main canal? The other people that responded to your post do not know the area like we do I grew up out there. Good hearing that the area is still alive. You are right, that guy does not know what he is talking about. 150vpier dont tell them anything, some good things are better kept from the public.Have a great time fishing write me back soon. 200vector@aol.com
I am not saying you are cmpletely b-s-ing eveyone. But for you to say you have caught many over 10 pounds might be a stretch. I believe you have caught alot nice fish out there, but I know alot very good fisherman who have fished out there for years and you won't hear them say they have caught many 10 pounders plus or any at all. Don't forget this is a fishing site so when someone asks you how to get there you should accomadate and share the wealth. This is not a tournament spot, its just for fun.
I grew up fishing macks as well.Main canal is best in spring time, top water bite is awesome! Heading north just past the slight bend you will see were one can cross over to the left or right with a light boat or canoe to fish the little L.I have caught pleny of fish in 5 to 8 lb range.Hard to get to,but worth the effort. Take 27 to krome ave south about 1/4 mile make a right off krome on dirt rd.go to the end and your there.P.S.boat ramp fee is 2 bucks.Grand kids are still there to enforce it,they are good people and are happy to give out fishing info.
Fished the right hand canal on Sunday with my son. Fishing was ok, Most of the fish were very small. Big fish went 3lbs. Had to leave early due to boat problems. Do you guys consider the left hand canal the one that goes along krome avenue?
wrong guy man. I would never be in favor of filling in the canals. I was born and raised in south florida and have been fishing these canals all my life. I wish they would stop screwing up the everglades period. I have a lake house on okechobee in lakeport and it is almost useless because the water is so low. I don't know what the answer is, I think it is just sad.
I am however, looking for a spot to go camping/ fishing for new years and that is why I was asking about macks. If anyone has any other good spots they recommend it would be appreciated.
