You are better off at holylands right down the street. Sawgrass is going to be a tough day with the water almost up to the road on 27. The fish will be scattered and few and far between. At least at holylands they are kinda land locked with no flats to get into. Go to the east west canal and fish the shelf on the south side you should catch a few in the a.m. If you are going in the afternoon fish the pads on the other side with a speed worm flappin shad or frog. there are some monster fish in there. We have caught them from the bridge all the way to the western spillway. It doesn't seem to matter. It is like anywhere though some days are tough but the potential to catch a big fish is much greater than fishing at Sawgrass. Just a suggestion

Flats in Holiday Park?

September 26 2008, 10:46 AM

I am not a regular there by no means but have been a few times and could swear that there are flats to fish at Holiday Park. Isn't that the reason say fishing is tough there during summer when it rains and the water is high? Fishing seems to be better in April when the water is low and the fish are forced back into the canals.

Can someone clarify that this is true? Also, if you fish in the flats right now how deep is it? Deep enough to run a bass boat? Or do you have to troll into them? Anyone catching any fish in the flats at Holiday park?

Yes

The flats at holiday park are HUGE, and yes there are fish in them, but not all over them, they defiantely move and definately favor certain areas over others. The water on the flats varies in depth. But right now you can run all over them. But idle into them at the cuts, there are some rocks in them.

And make sure your batteries are fully charged and you have your flats flag.

Great point Luke

Yes keep in mind you can only go 1 mile or less into the flats at this time, at Holiday Park, I am not sure if Sawgrass is like that or not right now. But if you get to the ramp and there is a sign up that says flats are closed then that still means you can go into them with a prop boat but must stay within 1 mile of the canals.

The flats are fully closed to airboats and off road vehicles, unless they have aligator permits.
