Well Lox was tough as nails for me again Saturday afternoon. I went west to the flats and was my first time to fish those flats and found nice 3-4 feet of nice water with sparse grass. I managed 1 dink and lost another dink and had several bites that never connected. I was throwing a Speedworm on top like a buzzbait.
I really liked the water back there and will have to spend more time there. I went back to the boat ramp area around 5:30pm and fished there to no avail. I was stopped by a game warden who was kinda rude. He checked everything in my boat. He did tell me that someone fishing West caught a 7 and a 8lber. Not sure if he meant west in the flats where I was or in the canal on the west side?
Anyway, right before I left around 7pm or so I had a awesome bite on my speedworm and could tell the fish was big but of course I somehow didn't get a good hookset in it and it came loose. Wind was absent today and the bite was tough for me.
You are probably right BFM. I should slow down. I guess I get locked into one thing sometimes that works and of course I love a top water bite. I am sure a wacky rigged trick worm would get me a few bites in those flats? I also tossed a swimbait around too.
Fished Lox on Saturday with a buddy from 6:30 A.M. to noon. Fished the area from 8 mile marker to 10 mile marker, and caught around 15 fish the best 5 would have went around 22 lbs best fish was a little over 7 lbs. One fish was caught on a rattle trap and it was 4+lbs. All the other fish were caught on yum worms. Try fishing the worm real slow in about 4 ft of water, the bite was so soft you could hardly tell the fish was on you would just see the line move.
Bob thanks for the info. I fish that area allot too just wanted to try some flats fishing. Seems like better fish for me are in the canals. Has that been everyone's experience too?
