Took my nephew to Lox Saturday and it turned into one of those days that you wish you had never gotten out of bed haha.
First off I blew a trailer tire on the way. Lucky for me it was right on Sawgrass just before I get off at 441. So I have a dual axle trailer and I limp over to the Wal Mart there on 441. Biggest Wal Mart I have ever seen yet it doesn't have an AUTO CENTEr what the hell kinda supercenter place is this? So I go ahead and change out my bad tire for the spare tire. I was going to buy a new tire. Anyway, so we get back on the road and we go fish as usual albeit later than planned.
I have a soso day with 8 bass caught while my nephew gets skunked. I caught bass on several different baits including a Mag Ultra Vibe in junebug color worm, Rinky Dink tail spinner, and a red lipless crankbait. I was impressed with the bite on the lipless as I have not been able to manufacture many bites down here in SFLA on those lures. In central Florida they are awesome. I got 3 on that bait.
Anyway, we fish till about 5:30pm and head back in. While on the ramp as I am loading the boat my truck brakes go completely out. My nephew was in the truck as I asked him to go forward and he was rolling backward. So he pulls out and I get in and sure enough the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor. Dang now what? It is getting dusk now and someone walks over who says they are a mechanic and says let me pull my boat out and I will look at this. He actually pulls his boat out and drives off as he forgot then remembered and drove back haha. No biggie. He looks at it with headlights on it and a flashlight in his mouth and the brake line is broken and rusted through on my front left tire. Somehow my brake line got completely rusted through and I had no brakes.
I was so thankful to God that this happened at a boat ramp and not on the turnpike. I feel very lucky yet bad all at the same time. He says do not drive this and just pull your boat out of the gated area and get it towed. My nephew has AAA so we call them and 2 hours later they come to tow us out. They towed my truck and my boat back to my home which is roughly 40 miles away. Cost me $50 for the boat tow even though they said it would be free and all I had to do was tip the driver. Otherwise I would have left it and came back with a different truck and picked it up but that is another story.
So it was a rather long day as we got home around 10pm and I got my brakes fixed Sunday. I bought the new part and hooked it up myself. Now I need to buy some trailer tires. Just one of those days that was bad but could have been much MUCH worse.
BFM, I never thought of that. You might have a good point. The rubber sheath that covers some of the brake line was pushed up and not covering very much of the line where it should. Hmm, very interesting
As far as fishing goes, I am pretty deaf when it comes to listening to things hehe.
