I don't understand why some of the people on this site cry and complain about how some of the tornaments are run; or the percentage of money they pay out. To me it is pretty simple just don't fish any of the tournaments and go out and fish for fun. There is always expenses with anything people do and I don't see any of you that are complaining, waking up at 3:30 a.m. to register people and then be waiting at the boat ramp for boats to return.
I know, I for one who enjoy fishing the local tournaments, appreciate the guys who put on the tornaments. I enjoy the competition and the friendly banter that comes with it. For those of you that cry and complain it's simple, don't fish. If you have any questions I am easy to find in a blue and white triton and will be fishing Freds trail coming up.
NOPE NOT ALWAYS, YOU GO TO WALMART OR PUBLIX AND YOU HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT EVERYTHING IN YOUR CART IS GOING TO COST UNTIL YOU CHECK OUT...BUT YOU HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING IF PUBLIX MADE ANY MONEY OFF OF YOU OR HOW MUCH. OR DID WALMART CLEAR 20%, 30%, HOW MUCH DID THEY TAKE OF YOUR MONEY? SEE YOU DON'T CARE, DAY IN, DAY OUT WHAT OTHERS TAKE FROM YOUR WALLET, HOW ABOUT YOUR BASSBOAT, HOW MUCH DID THAT COMPANY CLEAR? ENGINE? TROLLING MOTOR? GAS STATION? SEE IT DOESN'T BOTHER ANY OF YOU "HAWKS" UNTIL IT COMES TO THAT S.O.B. TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR, HOW DARE THAT MOTHER FREEKER KEEP MORE THAN JUST ENOUGH TO PUT A GALLON OF GAS IN HIS TRUCK. AFTER ALL THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE ABOUT FUN, WHEN IT COMES TO HIM... IT'S QUITE HUMOROUS REALLY AND SAD ALL AT ONE TIME.
Great post! I rarely comment here on this site but that warrants a reply! There seem to be a few people that frequent this site that have nothing better to do than to be negative on the fishing down here.
I myself like to fish some of the tournaments in the everglades. They are a lot of fun and there are a bunch of good guys that fish. Some of the tournaments even help good causes like everglades restoration or another example is the one BLM put on recently at lake Osborne for a young man's family that tragically lost him this halloween.
Thanks to all the tournament directors out there! Keep a buck or two for yourself!
Do you think Kevin Van Dam and Skeet Reese quiz B.A.S.S. or ESPN on what they make off of each tournament? I think NOT!
To the whiners:
"Bring your wallet or don't come to fish!"
If you don't like that then just bring your 5 gallon bucket and sit on the docks at the park...'cause that's where you belong!
You can catch me in a white and black Stratos...I ain't hard to find!
I am not here to argue but like the man said...you don't ask Wal-Mart, Publix, Mobil, UPS or any other company for that matter what they make off of you when you spend money at at one of their stores / establishments. You get what you want / order, then you pay for it...and if you are satisfied then you leave right?
O.k. now that we are all on the same page...the only difference here is this is "educated gambling" meaning you are gambling your entry fee against other local anglers (just like you) for the chance at winning some of their monies.
Ever been to a casino? We all know that the "house" always gets a "cut". I bet you don't ask the Seminoles how many people gambled in their casino that night or what their profit was before you cashed out...They wont tell you trust me!
In your defense I will say that there needs to be a table or pay scale printed on the entry fee flyers...it should outline prizes based on entry fee and number of boats etc... (lots of tournaments do this already) Then we never have any issues with monies paid out at any event.
It would stink to think you won one thing in a tournment only to find out later that was not the case...
Remember guys... this is NOT the FLW tour or B.A.S.S. so lets try and keep it fun for everyone!
The "weekend warrior" crowd is who adds boats to our local events and keeps things interesting for all of us die-hards here in South Florida!
You wanna see what your made of then go fish against the big boys like I am going to do this next year! The 2009 Bassmaster opens are coming up. See you there!
Damn, look at the last open posted on here by the "south florida bass club" last chance open...They simply answered all anybody wants to know in a few short lines. Fund raiser for there cub and an 80% pay out....is that so hard????
Well...42.31...nice to see you catching up on some non-attacking posts!
And yes, the "Last Chance" event advertised "seems" to have all the necessary particulars answered. But I will point it out first...is this a winner take all event? You see, now events have to timidly post their function because everybody has a question at some point. The payback ratio really shouldn't be that big an issue but if omitted in a post about an event, it seems to reflect poorly on the host. One big fish or two? Flights? Order of take off? Dead fish penalty? Off Limits? Protests? Polygraphs? And many more???'s...
How about just posting an event, some cursory info and a phone number to get ANY and ALL your questions answered.
It seems now the competition starts before the first boat hits the ramp.
Is there some newfound history on trails "ripping off" anglers? More than once?
You make an issue out of everything. There was never an issue until you try to stir crap up. Payback is 80%. That's good enough. Nobody ever ever asked for a breakdown. Just a little info is all anybody asked for. Nobody asked for or cares about operating costs, etc.
OK SINCE ALL YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW WAS PAYBACK, NOW TURN IT AROUND. WHY SHOULD A TOUR POST WHAT YOU'RE GETTING, WHY NOT POST WHAT THEY ARE KEEPING.
LIKE THIS, PAYBACK ON THIS TOURNEY IS.WELL, THAT DON'T MATTER WE ARE KEEPING 20%. OR WE ARE KEEPING 30% IS THAT BETTER? OR LIKE FM WE AIN'T KEEPIN NUTHING, NOW I PREDICT, NOT HOPE, BUT PREDICT IT WILL NOT HAVE THE DESIRED RESULTS. REMEMBER WHEN YOU WORK FOR FREE EVERYONE YOU WORK FOR IS PROBABLY GETTING WHAT THEY ARE PAYING FOR. LITTLE OR NOTHING. NOT BEING CRITICAL OF FM BUT 100% PAYBACK, 5,000.00 FIRST GUARANTEED, ETC. DOESN'T APPEAL TO THE MASSES LIKE ONE MAY THINK.
MOST GUYS HERE SAY THEY DO IT FOR FUN, WELL HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY FOR OTHER "FUN" IN YOUR LIFE? WHEN YOU GO TO A MAJIK BASKETBALL GAME AND SPEND 200.00 DO YOU GET ANYTHING BACK? WHEN YOU GO TO A DOLPHINS GAME DO THEY GIVE YOU ANYTHING BUT "FUN" FOR YOUR MONEY? SO WHY NOT DO THIS, DIRECTORS ALL RUN YOUR TOURNAMENTS FOR "FUN". AS AN ANGLER YOU SHOW UP, PAY 50.00 WHICH IS A LOT CHEAPER THAN A MAJIK GAME OR DOLPHINS GAME. YOU COMPETE, YOU WIN AND YOU GET THE SAME THING BACK YOU GET AT A DOLPHINS GAME. ZERO! REMEMBER THIS IS ABOUT FUN RIGHT? THE PROBLEM COMES IN WHEN SOME GUYS TRY TO MAKE BOAT, TRUCK AND HOUSE PAYMENTS OFF OF WHAT IS SUPPOSE TO BE "FUN".
IF YOU WANT TO GET DOWN TO IT, SOME OF THESE TRAILS SPEND THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS ON EQUIPMENT AND TRAILERS, WEBSITES AND SUCH, MUCH LIKE A FOOTBALL TEAM DOES. WHO SAYS YOU SHOULD EXPECT ANYTHING IN RETURN FOR YOUR ENTRY FEE. OTHER THAN "FUN". OF COURSE YOU'RE ALL CROAKING BY NOW BUT DON'T SAY IT'S ALL ABOUT FUN AND THEN TAKE ALL THE FUN OUT OF IT FOR THE DIRECTORS BY BITCHING, MOANING, DEMANDING, ETC.
I've never seen anything get so complicated in my life.
We're not asking anyone to reinvent the wheel or invent a better mousetrap.
Just post the damn payouts along with the entry fees, time, place etc.
AND I'M SAYING THE MINUTE YOU DEMAND AND GET THAT INFORMATION FROM ANYONE ELSE YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY WITH THEN YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO DEMAND IT FROM TOURNAMENTS.
GO DEMAND IT FROM BFL, THERE IS NO PERCENTAGE ANYWHERE ON THEIR SITE, NOR B.A.S.S. NOR WALMART, GOOGLE, GODADDY, PUBLIX, AS I STATED IN AN EARLIER POST, BASS TOURNAMENTS ARE THE ONLY PLACE YOU GET TO DEMAND THAT AND GET AN ANSWER. I SAY IF YOU PUT ON A GOOD TOURNAMENT THE F THE PAYBACK, BESIDES MOST OF THE GUYS BITCHIN ARE THE ONES WHO DIDN'T CUT A CHECK.
BFL AND OTHERS PUT OUT A MYSTERIOUS PAYBACK BASED ON 200 BOATS, WOULD YOU BE HAPPY IF YOUR CLUB DID THE SAME? HEY IT'S 80% AND 5K FOR FIRST BASED ON 200 BOATS. YOU'D HAVE THE PAYBACK AND PERCENTAGE BUT NO YOU WOULD NOT BE HAPPY BECAUSE NOW IT ISN'T REALISTIC, SEE WHEN IT GETS RIGHT DOWN TO IT, YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH THE ANGLERS ARE OR HAVE THE CHANCE OF GETTING. YOU ARE WANTING TO KNOW HOW MUCH THE TRAIL IS KEEPING. THAT'S THE REAL ISSUE.
People should not be so worried with how much a trail is making but only concerned that they are getting a fair amount of return for what they wager or put on the line. It is a law that at all, ALL, outlets that offer any wagering or gambling they must provide the odds and paybacks to the people wagering their money. Take a look at the back of a lottery ticket, a scratch ticket or inquire in a casino and they will let you know. They will tell you your odds at the slots, black jack, craps, video poker or any of them.
I think that a trail should set their percentage, let you know what it is, and if they run it correctly they can make as much as possible. If they put on a great tournament with good paybacks, sponsors, comradery, and a nice set up, they should be rewarded with a great net of money. If they are mediocre or lousy they can take their 20 percent out of nothing or a few boats. But once again, if they do a nice job they can take it from 70 or 100 boats.
I think some fishermen resent the fact that a trail or tournament director can make a couple grand at a big tournament. But why shouldn't they be able to make that amount if they put on a great tournament, it is a reward for a job well done. Not to mention all of the hard work that goes into it.
And about the Wal-Mart comparisons, Everything that goes into your cart has an advertised price before you take it off the shelf including items at Publix. If you look at the small print you can even tell the unit price and see how they make more for the same item in a smaller size. Any consumer should know what they are getting for their money whether it be at the grocery store, Wal-Mart or at a fishing tournament. If you want to know how much Wal-Mart or Publix are making look at ther stock reports and bottom lines.
IT HAS AN ADVERTISED PRICE, YOU HAVE NO FREEKIN IDEA HOW MUCH WALMART IS MAKING ON IT. THE ADVERTISED PRICE IS YOUR ENTRY FEE. ALL ELSE IS A MYSTERY TO THE SHOPPERS. THEY DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH THE INSURANCE COST, EMPLOYEES PAY, ETC. AT WALMART. SEE YOU ARE NOT WANTING TO KNOW HOW MUCH THE ITEM/TOURNEY COST, YOU ARE WANTING TO KNOW HOW MUCH THE TOUR IS KEEPING. AGAIN, YOU DON'T ASK THAT, YOU CAN FIQURE THAT OUT FOR YOURSELF IF YOU KNOW WHAT PERCENTAGE THEY PAY BACK. WHY DON'T YOU DO THIS, GO FROM ANGLER TO ANGLER AND ASK WHAT THEY GOT, THEN DO THE MATH. YOU DO THE WORK, IT ISN'T THE TOUR'S JOB TO DO IT FOR YOU. JUST LIKE IT IS RUDE TO ASK SOMEONE, HEY WHAT DO YOU MAKE AT YOUR JOB, ATLEAST MY MOM TAUGHT ME IT WAS NONE OF MY BUSINESS. DON'T ASK A DIRECTOR WHAT HE IS MAKING. NEXT TIME IN WALMART ASK THE CASHIER, THEN THE MANAGER, THEN THE BUTCHER, ETC. I'LL GUARANTEE YOU ATLEAST ONE OF THEM WILL TELL YOU IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. HERE'S THE ENTRY FEE, WE ARE PAYING 1 SPOT IN 6. NOW THE REST IS ON YOU TO FIQURE OUT, YOU GO ASK THE GUYS WITH THE CHECKS IF THEY WANT TO TELL YOU WHAT THEY EARNED, SEE HOW THAT WORKS. I KNOW WHAT I WOULD TELL YOU.
give it a break. I really thought I could go without saying or posting a response on this this site, but day after day you guy's continue to hurt the whole concept of fishing. pretty soon no ones going to show up for any trail, memorial, fund raiser, club,or charity event. your all going to scare everybody off. being a cancer survivor, I was? should I say one of the lucky ones who received a sum of money from a benefit tourney, actually 3 of them, with a fourth coming from a bowling tournament, put on by my fellow publix friends and assoc. I don,t believe any of them complained about where the money went?...I know this maybe slightly off the original post but the message is the same...if you don,t care to fish whatever event being advertised then don't show up!!!!AND LEAVE THE TRASH TALK IN THE "TRASH" most of you need to grow up a little. maybe with some age you,ll see lifes to short to bitch and moan like some of do on this site......We need to step back in time when things were much simpler!! and were happy when somebody put on tourney anywhere!!!!.....good ole terry ford style.... calling!!! John pate....? remembering the good ole days...sum-kina
