I went out to 27 saturday afternoon, I wanted to fish the fingers but the codition of the boat ramps out there was kind of scary. The 2 ramps on the west side of 27 closest to 595 have a hole in them from where the concrete has caved in I was afraid of getting my trailer stuck in them.It seems like the condiotions of the ramps we use(with the exception of holiday park) are in pretty bad shape(i.e. alligator alley). Is there anything we as a group can do to possibly get them looked at?Any one know who we can contact. We have all spent alot of money on our boats and trailers and our tax dollars to have to use ramps in these conditions.

There is a quick fix Jeffy Boy , go to home depot and buy some concrete and wood to use as framing and be a good old boy and get your friends to help you fix it ! now that was simple . You see in Canada when we want something fixed we gather are friends together and simply get the job done , instead of crying and bitching about the conditions of a project ! sounds like fun

Ramps

We at SAFER have been trying for the past 8 years to get something done about the ramps. there is money to be used to fix or build ramps, but each agency doesn't talk to another agency. FWC has permission to fix the ramp at sawgrass, but the EPA and DERM are holding up the work. I took Jopn Fury of FWC out to every ramp in Dade County which has by far the worst ramps. He made notes of each ramp and the condition, and is looking into who owns each ramp. It will probably take about 50 years to get anything done. Write a letter to the FWC Commissioners, and if enough letters get to the right people, maybe it will get done.

castoff, would some sort of petition work better than one letter sent by one individual. The ramps im referring to are on west side of 27 and along the alley.(and to the canadian moran: instead of a negative post about something that pertains to everyone one of us on this site please just dont say anything. This issue concerns every boat owner who uses this site!)Maybe we can use this site for something positive.

If the guys on this site are as good at writing letters as they are at trashing this site, maybe something will gete done. Put your words to work for a good cause.

At this point, I'm not sure what will work best. I believe the ramps along Alligator Alley belong to the DOT, at least they built theml. Other ramps are on SFWM property, and some belong to FWC. There is money in FWC and the Counties funds for boat ramps, the problem is getting someone to act on it. Letters to each Dept. are the only way for citizens to be heard at this time. SAFER's goal for the 2009 year is to form a Political action group, it will require the freshwater anglers of Florida to join, there will be membership dues. We have the largest lobby group in the Country, and don't use it. Once organized, we will have a voice in Tallahassee, and hopefully in Washington. There are about 2 million Freshwater fishing licences sold in Florida each year, we only need to get a small percentage of that group to join in order to be a force. if we don't do this , we'll just have to take what they give us and we have noone to blame but ourselves.
