I did a college paper on the peacock bass. According to my research, due to the drop in temp, peacocks do not usually survive north of Boca Raton area. Now im not saying there is a line they dont cross; I have heard of some being caught in Ida, Im just saying normally they dont survive north boca area.

HERES SOMETHING THAT IS INTERESTING.
I RECENTLY FISHED A VERY PRIVATE LAKE,,DEEP LAKE 70 FEET MAX WITH A TERMOCLINE.
THE DAY WE FISHED THE AIR TEMP WAS 81 AND THE WATER TEMP WAS 47..AND THERE WERE PEACOCKS SWIMMING ALL OVER THE PLACE.COULD IT BE THAT THEY CAN ADOPT TO COLDER WATER IF THEY ARE BORN IN IT?
IF ANYONE HAS SOME FACTS,I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR THEM.

Biologists at FWC say they can't tolerate water under 60 degrees for any lenght of time. the surface temp in your deep water lake may have been under 60, but the deeper water probobly was slower to cool down.

Water temp and Peacocks

January 28 2009, 4:52 PM

Marv, old chap, I seriously doubt you fished a lake in Florida that had water temps of 47 degrees that had Peacocks swimming around in it. That would be like saying I saw smallmouth bass swimming around at Lox. It just is not possible. Further more, if the water temp was that cold then we must have had one heck of a cold front blow through. Because if the air temp was 81 then the water temp would not be that cold. Unless the day before it was in the 30's or less. Make sense? Maybe the temp guage was off? But Peacocks cannot survive in water that cold at all. When I encounter Peacocks in canals where the water is chilly they are up near the surface warming themselves and they are lethargic as heck.

Just my 2 cents.
