We at SAFER don't often ask you, the fishermen to do anything, but now is the time to act. We are asking you to pick up a pen and paper and write a simple letter. The South Florida Water Management Board along with the COE is finalizing their Master Recreation Plan. This plan includes all future building projects in the Everglades Restoration Plan, Storm Water Treatment Areas, Reservoirs, and Impoundments. WE can make a difference !! Letter sould read something like this, use your own words.

As a Florida Fisherman I would like SFWMD and the COE to consider all future projects in the Everglades Plan to be designed as a fishery as well as a water storage area or water cleaning area. Design should include littoral zones for fish to spawn in, along with leaving structure in the area, such as trees, rocks, fences. This will improve the area as a fishery, and will lessen the cost of the project. Use the Stick Marsh as an example.

SFWMD has agreed to include boat ramp in these areas now it's up to us to convince them to consider it as a fishery. This is not too much to ask only takes a few minutes, and will make a difference.

Like all other government projects, we don't know, and neither do they. It is going to happen though. The courts just approved the go ahead for a one mile bridge on the Tamiami Trail at the esst end of the 11 miles stretch. this is after the Park gave the COE a check for one million dollars to build a test site to clean out 2 culverts and build a spreader swale on the South side of the Trail. The COE wants to build the bride before it's proven necessary. This is where your tax money goes because the Environmenalists are organized put up the money and are heard in Tallahassee and Washington. This is what SAFER is trying to do with membership dues and in joining the new Florida Freshwater Coalition (www.flffc.org) We do have the numbers to very powerful, if we just join together. If not, just sit back and take what they give you
