SPEED LIMIT ON LOX....WHY?November 18 2010 at 9:12 AM | MARV (no login) from IP address 205.188.116.80 |
| Can anyone remember any accident at Lox that would have triggered the enforcement of a 35 mph speed limit?
Is it to protect the canoists and kayakers >? 35 mph would demolish those watercrafts.
The sign says it is the speed limit on all federal recreation areas...Is that for road trails for ATVs or all waterways as well.
Would have been nice if the feds would habve conducted meetings to get some input from those of us that use Lox.
Better start using your GPS feature of speed over bottom so you can get an accurate read of your speed. You might have to defend yourself in court from a speeding ticket.
Its all ********...your governmment at work for you.....
Comments that make sense are appreciated |

While I am not a fan of intrusive gov't regs and there are too many of them - I have seen too many bass boats pass a kayak or canoe going 60 or 70 mph which is dangerous and rude in our narrow canals. I have a video of a catamaran passing within 3 feet of me going at least 90mph on L68 - I can just imagine what would happen if some guy in an airboat or jonboat came out of the marsh in front of him. Perhaps because it is about all Junebug can do to get much past 50 mph that I don't care about a 35mph speed limit on narrow canals - open water is another matter. Improper behavior by a few is usually the reason for laws, good and bad.
As a licensed captain with oceangoing experience I have seen far too many stupid accidents caused by speed and incompetence. I hate having more gov't laws that can be silly on the other hand I hate to see bad boat drivers causing mayhem on the water. The laws don't seem fair to those of us who practice safe boating and follow the time honored rules of the road and basic courtesy.
Unfortunately it could be the rules at Lox were arrived at by the behavior of boaters a continent away from here.
I will be surprised if the 35 is widely obeyed or enforced.

From the first post in this series:seems someone was already using a radar gun to check.
And I agree about speed being a killer,,and my thought was to post and enforce in the vicinity of the canoe trails. The open waters do not need it.
The feds should follow what has been established on the intercoastal to protect the manatees. Reduced speeds in certain areas. |

It probably is only a matter of time until this happens at Sawgrass and Holiday if it has not yet. It was mentioned about Lox years ago but did not hear anything until hitting this website this morning. I doubt there was an actual incident. It might have to do with the top speed of the open fishermen boats the FWC uses out there. Top speed is probably 35 mph. |

The sign at Lox states that 35 MPH is the speed limit at all FEDERAL recreation areas.
Sawgrass and Holiday park I believe are both Broward County Rec areas..
But who knows???

NOT!!! Every waterway in America should have a 35 mph limit...My experience with boaters here and every other place Ive been is that 90% of the azzholes piloting boats drive them like Hatians drive cars. Not to mention the waste of gas so we can get there a few minutes quicker. Why don't we as good Americans do our part in lowering our gas dependancy....is this site about bass fishin' or a place to cry....suck it up Marv!....and F.U. too Fred. |

TO..I AGREE:
I DID NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SPEED LIMIT ON FEDERAL RECREATION AREAS...I ONLY ASKED THE QUESTION IF ANYONE KNEW WHY SUDDENLY IT WAS BEING ENFORCED.
SPEED DOES KILL..AS A FORMER RESCUE CHIEF I CAN PERSONALLY ATEST TO THAT FACT.
NOT TOO MANY BOATS WERE GOING 35 ON LOX TODAY... |

I know i would rather have someone go by me fast then slow down and then wake the crap out of me when he is a few feet past. I also go on the opposite side when passing.
Now kayaks and canoes are a different story. I go past them slowly and dont open up until there will be no wake for them. | |
