Hello we need A honest opion,,, A man lives next door to me took his boat for repairs A johnson 150 89 model. he told the tech he had over heated it. the tech took a cmp . check he told the man it needed head gaskets , A water pump , and A stator because it had been hot, one cyld was 20lb of comp. gave him a price of 3500 bucks ,, now the good part The tech walk the guy to the car and told him he would do it on the side for 1700 bucks , the man asked the tech why he would offer that . his responce because the dealer is to dam high now this is where he works. he took the boat to another place they repaird it.. for 2000 dollars it had one burnt piston , they replaced it and all new rings , berrings , water pump and gave him 6 months warranty, now 2 things should he tell the owner of the marina his tech is doing this and how could he charge 1700 for just head gaskets and water pump and the stator was fine by the way. and how were they going to charge 3500 for the same work , head gaskets , water pump , stator , and not eaven know what was wrong with it his estament was for just those repairs , any ideas let us know thanks,,

You think A set of head gaskets and a water pump is worth 1700 bucks . He did not let them do the work he took it else where he did not want to do bussiness with a tech that he thinks cheeted his boss out of work.. And then did not eaven know what the problem was in the first place . He had it completely rebuilt at the other marina for 2000 with warrranty . the other place told him as is . so you think its ok to shop your wares from your job. And tell your costomers that where you work is to dam high . I think I would fire his *** on the spot to me its stealing . owners have A hard enough time now with all the over head trying to keep people in jobs to have your people taking work away from you . dont you think..And not only that Not eaven fixing it right .

Hey Puzzled, You need to let the business owner know this. You are not the only one this guy has approached. You know he's not insured to do work outside of that shop so future fisherman that get suckered into his scamming work may pay the price. Its hard as a business owner to see everything that goes on day to day. If this guy whats to do work solo, he needs to be certified, lisenced, insured, and get a shop.
