old fears

"After all its rare to see someone actually travelling back to the ancient "grimm brothers" source of childhood horrors,"

The point he's making is that it doesn't. Instead the game relies on the hollywood-ized version of faery tales.

"where the world is tainted with cannibal witches, exploitating stepmothers and gruesome visions of a very bleak and dangerous reality."

Were this the case, it'd be a good game. But then, why not just take th basic idea and use it for Kult child N/PCs? most games hva a core idea - like Sorcerer - and the rest is just padding (ie rules, pictures etc). This main themes can then be put in any other game, but especially Kult as it has such a rich cosmology. I think the only other RPG I've seen/played which is so detailed in Blue Planet.

"For him this world of ours contains no dangers for chidren. He is delusional."

Your polemic is entertaining, but I think this is unfair.

"Children are the weakest of the human species and as such are most often the first to suffer and die."

And old people. But they aren't so cute are they, so who cares?

Maybe "old fears" would make a good game - where you play old people trapped in a nursing home or something, going slowly senile (or is it just the drugs the nurses keep giving them?), perhaps reliving past bad times, fearing death and disease lurking around the corner as their friends die... This would remove a lot of the usual "run around and shoot things" RPG stuff, as N/PCs would very old and frail. How many people have ever played anyone over 60? This could make for an interesting game, but of course, it'd be harder to romanticise than childhood, and probably pull less heart-strings.

"children DO have to deal with every day perils such as "candy offerers",drunken parents or simple negligence. Its not just a tabloid reality.Children are extremely vulnerable."

Yes and no. The paedophile bogeyman is just that. I think this is the tabloid reality. Yes, the others dangers are there and are much more common than child-snatching paedos.

Children are preyed upon by strangers much less than the media and other groups wish us to think. On a related point, children are more sexual than most people wish us to think.

"And i don't believe at all in the old legend of childrens innocence.."

This seems to be his main target. That a central game mechanic is "innocence" reduces the whole (but basically good idea) or little fears down to a disneyfication of childhood.

"But in the end the game seems quite original and extremely dark."

Agreed. But also deeply problematic. If these issues were addressed, a great 2nd ed. could be made.
