Screams from the outhouse - The Truly Rural Forum

This forum is for discussion of any of the material that is currently up on the Truly Rural website. Currently there are two different ezines hosted, a small selection of gaming articles and downloads, misc fiction, a little humor and whatever else comes to mind.

This forum used to be the Prison of Flesh Kult forum. But with the establishment of The Last Cycle it is no longer needed for that. All the old posts were kept in case anybody feels like digging through them.

all you trillian users...

by !mpact

currently there is a problem with trillian, so if you use it (don't know what it is?: its a multi tool for chat, it makes you able to use ICQ,AIM,Y! and MSN all under one programme..) then I suggest going to
http://www.trillian.cc

Yahoo is what's ****ing things up, and they have a "do it yourself" temp aid there, which inables autostartup of Yahoo in trillian.

Now, if the damn lictors would only stop at Yahoo, so we could continue the mlice....hmmmm....

Kult webring

by !mpact

..well... I have no idea if there actually is an existing webring for Kult or not, however.. I have created an image for such a webring, should anyone be interested.
I have no idea on how to actually create and host such a webring, otherwise I would do it myself.

There is a slight downside with this specific image... it craves a white background... Im going to see if I can fix it so that it will work for a black background, alternatively create a new one with black background...

until you guys give me go or flo... here's a sneak peek at it:

I hope it aint gonna be too many of you to check it out too fast... its limited amount of checking times on the webpage or something... but anyways... its me first pic in a HUGE while that I created and put up on the net... stay tuned for more madness to come from these torture halls...

If anyone tell me how to actually host and work one of these webring thingies: I will do it.

I have heard that there used to be one of these things, but that nobody updated them.

I dont know the code nessecary to keep a webring, but if I can get the info on that from someone, I will host such a webring. Do updates and everything.

I think we are all stuck in some sort of
group purgatory here.

Look at the facts people:

We get a forum...
Many people come...
It is a success...
Lictors knock it down to our heartbreak
time and time again...
Comes back up...
Knocked down again... and again...

Ok then... we give them the slip and move
to a new forum...
Many people come...
It is a success...
Lictors knock it down to our heartbreak
time and time again...
Comes back up...
Knocked down again... and again...

Everytime we think we're free... the pull
us back in again...

Weather

by torb

I've always been wondering what controls weather in Kult cosmology... Is it all an illusion, an aspect of Gaia or what? I ran a campaign once where the pc's came across an artifact that controlled global weather--- that was pretty cool.

"Why don't the go

because they have chosen to live in a more stable climate zone, perhaps

My take..

by Molten Plastic

I see weather as a forgotten structure of reality decided by the same essence of existence...laws of physics in our prison are not false...they are simply distorted rays of the original laws that truly keep reality in play...

Weather..as nature...follows a pattern that only the divine essence of our visions can truly understand...a pattern that we have forgotten

Modern science sees chaos in nature and in physical existence...but this is false...all follows a law...just because chained humans minds cannot comprehend it does not mean that such a law does not exist

All has a logic to it...but we are to blind to see

Weather in Inferno/Metropolis/Whatever

by torb

How about weather in Metropolis? The only thing the rules describe is that you can always see the black sun, which would be an indication of a clear sky or a wicked layer of color-distorting smog

Gamichicoth's nepharites can control temprature in inferno, but other than that, I haven't seen a lot to indicate a weather system in Kult.

That could...

by -King Six-

... work, but I think it would be better of being a reflection of Gaia. In storms everything gets back to nature. Things made by man break to the components they are made from etc. etc. Weather and wind "erase" history in a way.

The dark art will take effect as long as the user concentrates, but of course, it could maybe be done if the skill value is high enough. But then is the Question, who is doing this and why? How high skill score would you need to create a hurricane or something like that.

Is it possible to get my Players to Metropolis by forcing them to take "special" drugs?

by torb

Drugs to see through the Illusion? No problemo, just make up a new drug or claim that an already existing drug has the properties you are looking for.

You could claim that any hallicunogenic drug actually "removes" the illusion that is our second set of eyelids (eg. something similar to LSD actually shows your players what is REALLY there, instead of another set of illusion).

I believe there was a drug in the campaign called "Judas Grail" that did just that... I think they called it Crimson Death or something like that - maybe you should look into that if you have access to the Judas Grail.

In an old campaign I ran, Ne Plus Ultra, there were a group of junkies who spent all their day looking through the illusion as a form of entertainment.

The alice in wonderland parody structure will leave them a bit unnerved...

They should realize that those small tablets are a way to salvation...but where to is all to be discovered..

Maybe the drug only brings their souls to metropolis..while their catatonic bodies are left in the prison and put in an institution somewhere..

Imagine the players discovering after long ..long adventuring in madness that in truth they never escaped at all.....

The Way Metropolis...

by

Some of my thinking...

Characters fall through a rickety stair case/floor/roof
into a dark basement of some kind... when they feel
their way out... they are in Metropolis...

A maniac on the highway rams their vehicle and
is trying to run them off the road... they take an exit
that leads to a heavily industrial area... the car
is over heating and breaks down, gets a flat or what
have you... the bums and vagrants come out of every
where... to eat them... they are in Metropolis...

Characters are in a bar or at a social occasion when
a man in a feverish rush starts drawing attention to
himself... he is holding a photo of a woman... Please
have you seen her... she was here last night/week... I
can't find her... Just look at it, have you seen her
and hands them the photo... it is laced chemically...
all who handle it later develop a yellowish stain
on their hands... that won't wash off... when they
leave the place they are in Metropolis...

Characters are in an elevator that gets stuck... 13th,
it gets hotter and hotter and no one answers the
alarm... it starts filling with a thickening smoke
when they pop the hatch and climb out whatever floor
they are on is in Metropolis...

Characters are at the scene of some disaster... a
bomb blast or building collapse... all hell is breaking
loose... when older style ambulances, police cars
and fire department vehicles arrive and start beating
and slaughtering the survivors... when the characters
look around the skyline is no longer familiar and
things not what they appear they are in Metropolis...

Under the topic "Beyond Passion" you will find the attraction rules that you refer to. They're not represented on the character sheet because it is so easy to figure them out 'as you play.'

In the first US edition it says that Attraction is (COM+CHA)/2 - in other words, quite easy to figure out and really not necessary to use up character sheet space for --- unless you really want, that is...

Kult/World of Darkness Crossover

by Anonymous

Hello.

I was referred here by Bitpicker (Robin). I was told that Peter Amthor has offered various articles dealing with a Kult/Wold of Darkness crossover that has appeared in White Wolf's Inphobia Magazine.

I was wondering if anyone had these articles, or if anyone has used them in game play.

Also, has anyone come up with a conversion system between Kult and White Wolf's Storyteller System?

Sincerely,

Forum et al...

by !mpact

Im sorry to see Torbs message (a bit further down in the postings list) that the Last Cycle Forum is probably down for good.

So what do we do now?

My suggestion is to take a new look at it and get on with creaing a new forum!

I have been looking over the net to try to find a good forum basis to create this new forum on, but has so far only come up with places that charge for getting a spot to put the forum on.

I have no idea how to go about with this, and personally I cannot pay for such a thing myself, atleast not right now.

But if anyone wants to recreate the forum (hints at Torb and K-6) here is the one provider that I think seems the most reliable:

http://www.xmbforum.com

Its about $35 a year (£22.27)

these are the features:

Ensim/cPanel 6.4 Starter
Free co.uk, me.uk or org.uk
PictureHost Premium Acc
Urchin 4 Web Stats
50 PHP/Perl Script Pack
70 MB Unix Webspace
2GB Monthly Bandwidth
Anti Spam Feature
On The Go Tools
PHP, Perl, WML, SSI
Unlimited POP3 Accounts
Unlimited Autoresponers
SQL Server Access
SSH Telnet Access
POP3/SMTP/IMAP Server
SSL Abilities

They have an average of 100% uptime (makes one feel a bit better then the ones who held the last server) and atleast 1Gb of RAM on each server, with 10 backbones throughout the world to ensure highspeed access....

I have so far seen this one being used on several forums I have access to, one of which is the Disgruntled FanBoy Comics Forum.

It basically looks the same as the Last Cycle, hence nothing really would look different, except that there of course is loads of work to be done to create the forum anew

A thought that occured to me is that whoever takes on this task, could get a paypal account, because atleast I would be willing to assist in the rebuilding of the site, and donating a smaller fee to maintaining it is something I could afford, and I think this applies to most of you guys aswell.

anyways... the work on the books continue, and Im also currently creating my website, with some aid of a guy who does a bit of flash for me...

Hopefully that one will be up and running soon.

The main advantage with an own site is that we may be able to host some files and we may not need to have any commercial banners.

Introduction

by

Since I have begun responding to people it is only right and polite that I post a letter of introduction.

The moniker above is what I generally go by online, though others may call me Andrew in and about IRL.
I live and work in Atlanta, GA, and am a student of history. My place of employment is Earthlink.
I've been on the internet a number of years in one guise or another, have a myriad of hobbies, etc, etc.

RPGs are fairly central in my interests and I like to fancy myself a bit of a collector. My primary RPG loves are Call of Cthulhu, Cyberpunk 2020, Fading Suns, and any game that features a complexity of culture [Talislanta, The Dying Earth, Tekumel aka The Empire of the Petal Throne, etc]. Unfortunately, the friends I have in the state of GA tend to lean very heavily towards D&D [in various formats, 1st and D20 editions predominating] or the World of Darkness series. Normally I wouldn't have a problem with WOD as its games lends towards great gaming dynamics, but there seems to be an issue with playing it seriously. I've met too many people who liked playing 4th generation Brujah with god-monster abilities. I therefore say no and refuse that particular crack pipe when it is passed my way.

I do get to exercise great fun in playing occasional games of Twilight: 2000, The Morrow Project, and Fringeworthy with a gamemaster who has fairly good horror/terror tendencies. However, everyone I know has refused to play a game of Kult, either with myself playing or running, saying that the game is too sick. It's rather disappointing.

Kult was introduced to me at the tender age of 14, when I bought a copy of the 1st edition and hid it from my parents, who were rigidly Catholic at the time. I've since been able to put my hands on just about everything put in English since then, and consider it to be an exquisite game.

Otherwise, I am at your service. I will post on the other forum when it's back up, as it seems to be down now.

So I reckon you're into racing cars. Do you guys on the other side of the lake have any opportunty to follow the World Rally Championship?

A norwegian, Petter Solberg, just impressively won the race in Australia and is second-placed so far in this years tournament! Mud and rain and 200 km/h, gotta love it! I don't even have a drivers license myself, but that's another story...

How long has TLC been down now??? I'm losing my patience over here!

Get it back online we could make try to get the complete TLC database. Or even better, we buy a domain, i have found some fairly cheap ones that probably have enough bandwidth and space for us to host the forum. Then we ask them to help us with transfering the database to our new domain.

We did it with the online gaming clan I currently play with. And it worked fine.

It's a sad day in the world, when a person can get stabbed to death in a Large Store in central Stockholm, in the mid afternoon.

Swedens Foreign minister, Anna Lindh, died this morning at around 5.20am after surgery for more then 12 hours.
She did not survive the damages she recieved yesterday afternoon.

Crime around the world is really getting
bolder and bolder. News media makes a
celebrity out of the criminals who often
seem to have more rights then the victims.

The news media here in the US has so many
desensitized by mass death and destruction
everything so sanitized for mass consumption
and marketing that deaths of individuals
are a passing thought at best... barely noticed
or raising an eye brow. It's almost a chore
to pa attention to... which doesn't speak well
of humanity.

I thought I heard some quote about Sweden losing
it's face to the world... (Not to start a political

Sad II..

by !mpact

...its sad when a 5 yearold girl can be stabbed several times to death in a childcare center in midday by a psycic-ward-inmate and the news of it dissapear in the mediacircus around a crime that happend to have a politician in it.

Thursday at around eleven-ish, a 25 year old mentaly instable person walked past a kindergarten, decided to step into the premises and stab, several times, a five year old girl for no reason whatsoever. The girl died at hospital within minutes of ariving.

I have so far heard ONE newsreport about this incident...

This happened in a place called Arvika, Sweden. It is a village in comparison to what most of you guys concider a proper city. Stockholm is a major city.
Though I do not concider it normal in anyway, I concider it more probable that someone gets stabbed, even in a department store, in Stockholm.

I find it shocking that someone could kill a person (regardless of whom) in a department store, but I find it horrifying that someone can stab a five year old to death in a kindergarten.
I find it sick that nobody cares about a fiveyearold just because an "important" person got killed.

Im not reffering to politics at all here, Im just thinking from the perspective: atleast Anna Lindh, Foreign minister of Sweden, age 46, HAD a life.

Un-named girl of 5 didnt even get a chance to live...

I have an idea...

by !mpact

..and Im wondering how many of you guys are interested...

Im currently working on the Voodoo and Host sourcebooks.
I sure hope that you people will find them atleast somewhat interesting when I am finnished with them.
I am, however, someone who needs, no craves, no... DEMANDS, to have LOADS of things to do at the same time, I work best like that.

Now I have come up with a small I dea, Im not sure what you guys think about it, but here goes...

I will create a sort of "bestiarium", a book called
The Arcanum Male Somnio (meaning, roughly: "The Arcane Knowledges of our Bad Dreams").

This book will be sort of a story made by a fictive (possibly NPC-esque) person who has done roughly the same kind of work that Leonardo Da Vinci has done, he has collected information on creatures...

The spelling of the title may or may not be correct, the main idea is that it is the fictive person that has deviced the titel (hence I dont have to take **** for not knowing my latin proper).

Now for the treat....

Im thinking of letting you guys send me ideas or finnished creatures to me... I will put them in the book...together with a description made by the fictive person (okay okay...you want a name? Marquiz De Cagliastri).
I will make a description of every creature, however, I will BASE it upon any descriptions you guys make.. after all, I have to use the wordings of the Marquiz even though the creatures are made by you guys.

I have been thinking about numbers and such... granted there are more people who like the first editions, or swedish editions, or local or whathave you, However.. since everyone has the possibility to have a different version of the rules, I have decided that any numbers and specs of the creatures will only include Main Attributes and Main abilities.
No numbers for initiative, no numbers for damage, no numbers for weapons or such.
Those things will be up to the GM ho uses the book to put in, accordingly to the system he/she uses... I hope you think that is a good idea.

In the end of the book (aswell as throughout it) there will also be a story unfolding around the destiny of the Marquiz, which will be (hopefully) an excellent basis for ideas for you guys for an adventure or two...

Basically, I just love writing stuff, and this is a good forum to use that fact.

Anyone who has any comments on it?

If you are interested in seeing your name pop up as an author, aswell as your creature popping into the book, send your textfiles (aswell as any eventual JPG(!) images, then you will pop up as an artist aswell =p) to

HERE IT GOES

by -King Six-

All weapons have a DEF value. 9mm handgun for instance has a DEF of 11.

You roll to hit and your effect on the roll determines the damage.

If you roll a near miss, effect of 0-2 or so the def is modified with a negative number. an effect of 10+ gives a +5 modifier. after this you consult the damage table. <0-4 = scratch, 5-10 = light wound, 11-17 = serious wound and 18+ = fatal wound.

I don't have the tables in front of me, but something like that. One thing is clear though. To be able to inflict a fatal wound without scoring a perfect hit the def needs to be 13+, which is possible with damage bonus and such. I don't like the system as it is impossible for a character with a low skill score to kill an opponent with a single attack, even if he is using a 9mm (very common) handgun. Wounds are surrounded with lots of randomess.

(sorry for typos... sitting on o French keyboard... it sux )

actually, with VERY little modification...

by !mpact

..it becomes quite good in comparison to the VERY chance based 2nd ed (swedish) system..

Just skip the neg modifier table (the one that gives minus if you have a crappy effect) and do it like this instead:

You shoot, get an effect of 4..
ADD that to the Def and read in the list, and voila.

You have a very lethal system, which still is quite dependable upon how good you are in the ability, rather being more of a force of luck/bad luck, which usually is the case with the system where you have to roll to see what damage you deal.
(honestly, we all know that dice have a tendency to roll either lucks way or bad lucks way to a bigger extend then probability tells us it should)

By the By... check out Jason Justs Website.. he has renewed it... I find it smashing!

One More thing...

by -King Six-

as you said before, we have different opinions in this matter, and that is as it should be

I think that by letting a very skilled shooter sacrifice chance to hit with the ability to hit vital parts or bypass armor by shooting at areas (which simply translates as a modification to the damage equal to the penalty to hit, but with opposite sign) and then still keep the D20 die roll to determine damage is the better way, as it gives a less combat oriented character a more realiststic chance to kill an attacker.

I already use this when aiming at bodyparts: When aiming at the head you get a -6 penalty, but you receive a +6 damage bonus, which does not apply if you hit the head at random. or the chest -3 to hit and +3 to the damage.

It is then very easy to let the modifiers become even greater: Aim at the target's eye, with a -10 modifier and have +10 to the damage.

Well, if someone isn't good at shooting...

by

Well, I think that the DEF system is quite good - it is fast, lethal and it seems to me, that the DEF system is so realistic as it should be for a game mechanics - if someone is a lamer shooter, then he doesn't have a big chance to kill someone with only one shot, apart from the obvious things like point-blank. Besides the old system slows the combat, because you have to use a lot more firearms tables.

Thing is

by -King Six-

that you can't kill ANYBODY even if your score is 100 without scoring a Critical hit with a 9mm. If you roll an effect of 15, you still only get +5 to def, which effectively is only 16; thus only a serious wound.

as I said....

by -King Six-

even a skilled character can't do it with the most common type of handgun without scoring a perfect hit.

I can agree that this may be good enough for some people, but I think that the leap in lethality between DEF 12 and 13 is too great. The probability of killing someone with a weapon, having a skill score of say 15 (a fairly normal skill score for a character using a firearm professionally) will have a probablilty of scoring a killing shot in 1 of 4 shots if the DEF is 13. The same guy shooting a gun with def 12 will only score a killing shot 1 in 20 times as he only can score 18+ in damage effect with a perfect hit.

DEF 12 and 13 respectively compares to a .45APC and a .357M, or a 9mm and a .45 using hollow point rounds. The difference is just too small to justify that large difference in lethality.

In that case I think that !mpact's solution by just adding the effect solves the problem with the great leap. "DEF+Hit Effect-5=Damage Effect" is a method I used for a while as I evaluated the system. If I recall correctly both I and !mpact worked on that and settled for that solution to remove this leap. I have after this came to the conclusion that the 1st edition damage system is easier and faster, and allows combat to be more versatile.

If you use damage specific to each weapon type or caliber as in the US 2nd there are just about the same amount of data to remember as a GM, but you don't have to do any calculations.

KULT 2nd US edition

by

GDay to all of you!

Ive been playing KULT for years now together with my gaming group and it is, together with Vampire, the game we play the most.

I have at later times been very interested in GMing KULT and so I decided I would try to get myself a copy of KULT.

And I have decided that the version I want the most is KULT 2nd US Edition, the one with black and white cover.
One big problem though, one I know most of you are already aware of...WHERE THE HELL CAN I GET IT?

I know KULT and its supplements are rare items but if anyone in here know of any place (or anyone) who is selling this book, please drop me an email...Id be in your dept for ever and always.

Thanks.

Why do you want the 2nd Edition rules?

It lacks most of the magic rules and other things that is there in the 1st edition. The combat rules in 2nd edition basically sucks compared with the 1st edition, etc, etc...

Do yourself a favor and get the 1st Edition rules! I mean it! The only thing that is pro 2nd edition is that there is a semi-kultish short introduction adventure.

However, the adventure that was in the Swedish 2nd edition has been published online and can be found here:
http://kult.symbolique.net/inferno_hislasthope.html

you can probably find it elsewhere too.

As for Kult, you will probably have to buy it on Ebay or a similar trading place.

I hope that this helps

Everyones own choice

by !mpact

Wether or not anyone likes a specific edition of a specific RPG that you do or not, it is, in the end, their choice.

There are people that like other editions of Kult out there, I happend to be one of them, and personally I would get ticked off if someone told me:
"Do yourself a favor and get the 1st Edition rules!"
It is not only condescending, but it also assumes that everyone thinks like and agree with you on this subject, something that has been debated on this very forum before, and guess what...

People think differently from eachother.

Reading what Marcus has said:
"And I have decided that the version I want the most is KULT 2nd US Edition, the one with black and white cover."

I take that as he already decided which edition was best for him. Otherwise I would assume he would ask which one is the best edition for him.

As for the magic rules, well, actually the rules for magic that are linked to the 2nd US edition are more worked out then the swedish 1st and 2nd editions, the only bugger is that you have to buy them separately.
If you like magic, that is a serious backdraft. However, if you want to start light, it is a good thing, because you wont be mesmerized by the "oooh...magic...mmmmmmm...beeeeeeer...." kinda feelings.

I think that you are wrong...

by -King Six-

The magic rules in the supplements "Conjurers Guides" are not more "worked out" than the Swedish and US 1st. They are almost identical, but there are a few more spells in them, and a couple of new archetypes. The second Swedish version lacks magic rules and the US 2nd has some 2 or 4 pages covering the subject.

""Do yourself a favor and get the 1st Edition rules!"
It is not only condescending, but it also assumes that everyone thinks like and agree with you on this subject, something that has been debated on this very forum before, and guess what...

People think differently from eachother."

Well, you might think it is so, but that is also your opinion, right? Personally I see this as a piece of good advice and I have a hard time seeing the condescending part.

No matter what you and I think, the 1st edition is the most prised version of Kult, but of course, there are people of different opinion.

Finally, the 2nd edition might also be much harder to find. It does occationally surface on Ebay, but it mostly entail a much higher price than the 1st.

why i choose 2nd edition

by

Well firt of all ive ready through the entire 1th edition of KULT (swedish edition) that i borrowed from our gamemaster when i told him my interest in GMing it...
Now I want a little diffrence between our GMing and I thaught that if i buy the second edition we might get just a little change between our gaming session...

Ive also read somewhere that the 2nd edition is both graphically better then the 1th edition and that 2nd edition is more "mature" too...The frontcover, IMO, is much more Psycological disturbing then the one of 1th edition so all in all my beliefs of 2nd edition is quite high...

And when it comes to the accual rules...I couldnt care less honestly as we very rarely ever use them...I want the accual reading in the book, not the rules...

Ive never read the 2nd edition so i may be way off about it but I still wanna try it out...Thats why im looking for just that version of KULT...

And if anyone of you can tell me if im right/wrong on the points above, please do...Id love to know more of KULT 2nd edition...

And also tnx for ALL of your responses =)
Much appreciated!!

the biggest difference..

by !mpact

..is actually the cosmology.
Personally I think that the difference is that there are more things hidden in the second, you have to "have a hunch" about some of the cosmology in the second edition of both English and Swedish 2nd ed.

Some people preffer to have everything smack in their face, personally I have always felt that what you have to imagine yourself is WAY more disturbing then what is just shown to you.

This is one of the major reasons why I personally like the 2nd ed ENGLISH version.
There are loads of things that are just scratched on the surface, and that you have to figure out yourself, alternatively, read between the lines.
This gives loads of freedom in creativity, as YOU decide which creature are there, how they look, act smell, sound etc etc.
It can alo be quite restraining, if you dont have the energy to actually look into things and decide on your own, in which case the 1st ed corebooks might be better, as they contain loads of info on everything... and I do mean everything.

Some people do not like the influx of the "dark art", personally I see it as a great tool for beings that are not human.
They are able to put effects on our _illusion_, whilst magic is the human effect on reality. Since the illusion is a part of reality, it gets hit by the magic aswell.
Non-gods shouldn't have that power, hence the dark art becomes a great tool for that.

But thats just my opinion.

Magic, can be a great influence for mood, however, it is quite timeconsuming for characters to perform magic, hence it craves planning.

(sure, you can make something happend in a split second, but the build up to that point is a long and twisted way)

This means (for me anyway) that it is something to keep to NPC's, because then you can set the rules for how long they have been working on a specific magic effect.

With a bit of imagination, one can actually "fake" magic as long as you have some sort of good mood feeling for it in your game.

The magic books give a good description of it though, aswell as an indept description on how magic works, IMHO they are way more intricate and thought through then the original ed version of it.

As far as maturity, well, people evolve, but not always to the same extent:
2nd ed US is a very dark and brooding book in itself, with art and layout, whilst the 2nd ed Swedish is quite light(in comparison) in its layout and images, mind you, Im not talking about rules and written stuff here.

US 1st ed I have no idea about, but the 1st ed Swedish...well... lets just say that Im not impressed b the layout, and the "box plus several notevenpaperback books" format is something I never really liked, let alone the fact that the layout is quite chaotic.
Sure it is divided into books like the gamemasters book and the players book and so on, however, I always got the feeling when I looked at the books that the creators of the game had a good idea, but it got swamped in LOADS of info that needed to be fitted very very fast into a game format.

(no I dont own them, but I know people who do, and I have read them)

It gives the edition a somewhat chaotic feel.

In the second editions they have put more order into things, and Im still talking about layout here, whether or not cosmology had to pay or magic or whatever, well..thats really up to the person who owns the books or decides to buy them.

If you want to get a different feel for your game then from your previous games with another GM, well, getting another edition might do the trick for you, but in the end... YOU are the GM, and YOU decide what is good and what isnt.

In essence, different GM's make different games...not depending on the corebooks but depending on their character and persona.

You broke the rules and now I'm gonna pull out all your pubic hairs~Tenacious D

Point & Counterpoint

by

I would certainly be happy to point out differences in both editions - I once was the possesser of both. Sadly, my 1st edition was lent out and the person I lent it to disappeared from the state.

>I've also read somewhere that the 2nd edition is both >graphically better then the 1th edition and that 2nd >edition is more "mature" too...The frontcover, IMO, >is much more Psycological disturbing then the one of >1th edition so all in all my beliefs of 2nd edition >is quite high...

I would say the 2E is definitely better graphically and also with the inserts of "blurb" text. I feel they better presented the game as I thought it should be. The graphics from 1E had more of a tendency to issue a splatterpunk feel to the game; I actually have copies of both variants of graphics on posters in my workcube.

>And when it comes to the accual rules...I couldnt >care less honestly as we very rarely ever use >them...I want the accual reading in the book, not the >rules...

I feel the rules are a bit more succinct and laid out in 1E rather than 2E. The comments about the magic rules are correct. There are variants in terms of the background provided, especially the debate on Ktonor. Also, the status of the Demiurge changes between the two editions. I feel most of the bakcground issues could be easily collated together in the game, though.

New US Edition of Kult

by

French publisher Le 7eme Cercle/7th Circle publishing company will be making Kult available in the US again late this winter. The first product will be Beyond the Veil, a new hardcover with new illustrations.

KULT is a complete role-playing system written in three detailed sections. The system and book have been streamlined for quicker and more enjoyable play.
Section 1, The Lie: This section helps players create detailed and unique characters so they can jump right into the game with little effort. It also outlines an efficient resolution system along with a new, quick combat system helps Gamemasters run more enjoyable sessions with few interruptions.
Section 2, The Rumors: Detailed chapters on dealing with accidents, time, and meeting with horrific events. Includes suggestions on running adventures and campaigns, and creating an atmosphere of horror. It also details rules for creating inhuman characters, and a fresh and focused Magic system.
Section 3,The Truth: This section provides you with the dark background of the world in which your players will live. Our jailers and their minions are detailed, as is their most dreaded power, The Dark Art; with which they create and manipulate our very world and everything within it to their terrible desires. Nothing is what it seems, and a hideous game is being played out just beyond our sight.

Vampire

by Walpurgis

So I gave in and finally bought Vampire 3rd ed. by White Wolf. Never played it before, but like some of the ideas I read in there. also realised what an excellent cosmology Kult would provide for Vampire, as the alternative history presented in Vampire is very thin on the group. Take the Jyhad - why is it being fought? no-oine seems to know. What happens after death? No answers. Nevermind.

Does any body know of any good vampire recsources online? All I can find in shit about the CCG, LARPing and poor fan sites.

Thanks

Feeders/Feedees - FA community.

by

First I must warn that this post contains material relating to sexual deviance that some may find offending. Also, I'd like to express that I do not share the views of these people, whom I think to be seriously mentally ill.

Haven't been around on this forum for a long while, but I recently saw a documentary on TV that immediately called my attention to KULT, and it's potential as ressource material for our dark child... Perhaps some of you are familiar with it, but to those of you who are not, I'd like to introduce the concept of Feeders/Feedees, which is without exception the single most perverse and depraved sexual fetish I have ever heard of. (Yes, I think it's worse than even pedophelia, but I'll get into that later).

The idea is fairly simple. The feeder is an individual (all my research so far indicates a male) who's sexually aroused by fat women. By fat, I don't mean plumb or round, but truly gargantuan blobs of flesh and lard. The Feedee is an individual (Again my webbased research indicates a woman) who's massively obese and thus she enjoys the attention of a feeder. That in itself is strange but ultimately a matter of taste, and therefore not really sick.

The truly sickening part is this. The feeder finds a woman with low self-esteem, often someone who's a little overweight or otherwise physically impaired when it comes to attracting sex-partners, and gives her loving attention and affection, something she craves but has a hard time getting, which ensures the feeder that the woman will go to extreme lenght to preserve the relationship. Then the abuse begins. It's subtle at first, a hint that her looks might benefit if she takes on a few pounds, that her breasts might grow a little nicer or giving her sweets, calorie laden cakes and chocolates.

It is a tricky plan, one that often has to remain concealed long enough that when she finally figures out what's going on, she'll already have grown so large that few else would want her as a partner. Combined with her low self-esteem she will now feel dependant on the feeder, and aside from stuffing her he's treating her like a princess. So she'll go along, reassured by the loving feeder, or threatened by him if she protest. Typical are statements such as "I'll only love you if you keep growing bigger" or "I'll leave you unless you eat this, and who will care for you then?" Often the more dependant on the feeder she gets, the more his sadistic tendencies comes to the surface.

The ultimate goal of these feeders, is to make the woman so large that she can do nothing but sit as a huge pile of fat. She can't clean herself, she can't get up to go to the bathroom, she can do nothing but wait for the feeder to care for her in every way. His dominance is total, she can't even walk to a phone and call for help. And even if she could, would she? Who else would love a 300 KG beast? Her life is now in the hands of the "loving" feeder...

I really can't think of anything more depraved than this fetish. Imagine the perverse dedication it takes to do such a thing! Rape, pedophelia and such acts of sexual depravity are terrible - but mostly also acts of sudden impulses, momentary loss of control often combined with drinking and drugs. This is meticulously planned destruction of an individuals ability to sustain herself, followed by the abuse of her homegrown helplessness.

Gamaliel, Gamichicoth, Nahemoth... oh my!

For reference you can visit:

http://go.to/fatten (the stories section outdoes any horror novel I've read)

Yours truly

... I am, but this opportunity to explore a part of the human psyche that really freaks me out is tempting, even though I'm pretty sure I will keep it inside the confines of the imagined reality of a game

Imagine a cult leader NPC, who has several of these obese monstrosities in his basement, where he force feeds and abuses them. Imagine the characters coming across his little earthly purgatory for these women, maybe wanting to help them, but suddenly finding themselves surrounded by these hideous creatures who while moaning and crying for help can think of nothing but to EAT the unfortunate adventureres...

Well the old Kult listserv still works. Nobody seems to use it anymore though. Which is strange since most of the time game listservs are busier than hell while forums all over the place are pretty quite. Kult is a reversal it seems, no suprise there I guess.

Anyways why don't we just use the old mailing list for the 'forum down' alert. Well, as was said, for those who wish the alert. Heck it may even get some traffic on the old and dusty list serv.

EGO mod on the character sheet

by -King Six-

If your character has very low mental balance he will be subject to additional modifications due to his dark nature. If a character has -15 or less in mental balance the modification to all Ego rolls in Terror situations is modified by +3. If his MB is -30 or less it is +5 at -45 it is +7, and so on. This modifier may well become so high that the character cannot supress a shock and then he is legally insane.

Calculating Attraction, Any Point?

by

I have seen no way to calculate the Attraction stat which exists on some character record sheets I have. It mentions it briefly in the 1st edition core rules book, but doesn't give any solid definition. It seems like it may be pointless to me as it's hard to make a realistic scenerio where a person becomes enamored by another through dice rolls alone.

Any suggestions?

Oh, and is there a good resource with lots of lists of archetypes? I had to download a warezed version of the main rules book to print the old ones off that I lost (and a few pages from the dark secrets section). Damn my old, falling apart book.

Where can I find a list of all the published KULT material?

Recently I received a copy of this RPG from my uncle (with a pile of other old RPG books). I only have what I beleive is the core rulebook, "KULT: Death is only the beguining" published by Metropolis. Anyway, I am interested on finding other suplements / sourcebooks / material for this game. Is there a web site that has all the Kult publications up to date. I had found this web site http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Quadrant/2002/Kltcatal.html , but it could be kind of old.

Here's the kicker!

by CJSiege

Personality: Cautious and calculating if unprovoked, touchy-seems to swing to anger readily and easily, fecitious sense of humor. Loyal to friends and family.

Dark Secret:
While enjoying 5 days off in New Orleans just before Mardi Gras, was viciously attacked in bed by a spirit that tried to feed off his life-force. After a three and a half hour struggle in his mind, he defeated the assault only to go into mild shock. The spirit left him and attacked his roomate and friend who was sleeping just yards from him. The difference was that Eagle was awake during the attack and his friend was asleep and assaulted in his dreams. Both people went to sick bay the next day and had a check up. Both members' systolic pressure (the push) of their heartbeats were abnormally high showing that they were both severely frightened even the next day! The spirit never returned after that night.
!
!
!
!
!
!
!
!
!
Here is the kicker loyal viewers:
This character is ME, to the T (though not the names)
I swear it creeped the hell out of me just to write myself down. I'm at work right now, and there isn't a week goes by that I don't hear or see something freaky here.

Well, thanks for reading, let me know what you think. The next day after that attack in NOrleans, I wrote down everything in great detail, as did my friend after I told him to, he just wanted to forget it all and rationalize it away!

Cool...

So far I haven't had any experiences that would make myself a cool Kult-character.

You'd be suprised...

by

I've never had anything supernatural happen, yet I think I could be a cool Kult character. Well maybe not me now, but me a few years ago. I used to be into drugs heavily and ended up having several friends dying from overdoses. Tons of dark secrets there. I'm sure my mental balance at that time was very low. Yet, I even have excuses in my history for why I know how to use a weapon (rifles, handguns, shotguns, etc...) since my Dad owns a gunstore here in SLC. I took Kung Fu for quite some time so there is some martial arts training. I would have been a dealer Archetype, at one time.

Anyways, I'm a dork, so I'll stop...

Hmmm...

by King Six...

I know how to handle firearms, from simple pistols and rifles such as Glock 17, FN FNC, G3, M16 and AKM to advanced antitank missiles (RBS-56 Bill) from military service, and I know some martial arts (Student level Karate and Ju Jutsu), so the combat part is covered.

I all other aspects I think I'd be the student, as I got a master's degree in scientific computing. But in my past there has been no drugs (other than alcohol )

I don't have any real "supernatural" experiences, maybe because I rationalize everything. Six years of science studies could make even the most dedicated believer doubt in the existence of God.

So maybe we have something here

A rationalist Student!

HELLSING

by

I am loving Hellsing... the English
subs are a bit off sometimes but I
really enjoy it. It has given me a
flood of ideas too...

I am going through it a second time
I watched/read the 13 episodes I have
in two days.

The last episode really seemed odd though
and I hope it comes back... it has a lot
of potential, great characters will do that!

I wonder what stats for Alucard/Arucard would
be... heh heh heh!

Reopening A Can Of Worms...

by Laughing Chance

I was looking through Purgatory last night
for something I partially remembered... a
bit about a Nepharite becoming so mighty that
even the Razides have taken notice and fear him.

I found it... in Elijah. The first Nepharite
they decribe. That he is believed to have powers
beyond his race and so forth... wants to replace
one of the Death Angels.

So does this mean Razides are the mightier?
Do Razides look down of the Nepharites? It
just seems to me Razides are more Muscle and
the Nepharites more Psychological... although
both are certainly capable of ruining a PC's day!

by !mpact

..allthiugh I always took it as if Razides work for the Death Angels, whereas Nepharites are hired goons, they have agendas of their own, but are let to do their dirty deals... I have also started to think that the difference between Nepharites and Desparites is just that... Nepharites are "hired" by Astaroth/Death Angels, whereas Desparites are not...

thoughts to think about maybe?

Yeah, yo

by CJSiege

Well, I always played Razides as more powerful and erratic than Nepharites, and the N's as more calculating. As if the Razides know they are so strong that they really don't give a rat's ass about the N's except to send them after someone. That's just me though... The Razides have bigger fish to fry, especially with all that power to gain with the loss of their bretheren, what with them being a dying breed and all (albeit slowly dying)

Razide vs. Nepharite

by CJSiege

Well, really I just wanted to spice up the recent posts. I get tired of seeing them all about Last Cycle (no offense meant). ANYWAY, I know everyone has their own opinions on this, and yes there was a post on Razide heirarchy, but here goes... What is the point of using Razides AND Nepharites? I know that Razides have higher stats and are more terrifying on-sight, but Nepharites are much more personal to an NPC or character. Plus they get to hunt people down for their sins. Sweeeet! Anyways, what do the viewers think out there? (oh, uh, I use both, eh heh...)

I like to use...

by -King Six-

both too. Usually I use Nepharites as side tracks to the main plotline. They are rarely the enemy the players have to confront sooner or later. They are more like a part of a player's death and their characters. If they are sinners and the mental balance is getting way down low. I sometimes let them meet their personal nepharite. Maybe to pick them up or just to trick the player to offer them more souls than their own :P

Razides I see more like the goons of the Death Angels. They carry out their work in the Illusion (in Inferno too, of course). I use them pretty much as Lictors for the other side, even though I have used renegade lictors as helpers of the death angels causes.

Psst.
I know I shouldn't respond to my own post so soon, but...

I like to make them both renegades from time-to-time, especially the N's, its just sooo fun to see an old spirit that tires of tormenting a couple dead people that they gotta go on vacation and hunt some good ole live peeps! Makes for great action! One of my favorite sessions in a campaign I ran involved a N leaving Inferno to wreck havoc on a block of Washington D.C. The PC's hunted him down and a giant bloodbath ensued! (Not my usual Kult fair mind you) A most memorable experience just for the sheer fun! One NPC with the group was outright slaughtered from the get-go when I rolled a crit for the N with an Uzi using full auto. Nice shock effect.

Kult Player's Handbook - Rumors (From the UK)

by

I just got into contact with a company in the UK who is selling 7th Circle products. One of which is the new Player's Handbook. I am wondering if anyone here has picked this up and if so what they think of it.

I am desperate to get a new rules book as mine is falling apart. It is even missing a few pages, as I have had it since I was 14 (I am 22 now).

Any ideas? They said they will be getting more in 2-3 weeks and I am probably going to order one, but want to make sure it is worth it (even though I will probably order one anyways).

DON'T BUY IT

by Malaki-Nihloper

Rumors is garbage. You will be better off using a tattered 1st edition copy. Rumors is more expensive and is basically an VERY incomplete copy of original book.

I will copy a message I posted over at POF:

-quote-

Ok, I think I need to get this off of my chest: I THINK 'RUMORS' SUCKS!

First of all, I don't like the cover work. I think the lady in the rainbow leather suit is dumb. I realize that the cover art is not supposed to give anything away (reason for separating the books); however, it could have been used to convey some idea to the players. At least with 'Death is Only the Beginning' the cover gave the players an image with symbols that implied some sort of religion and violence awaited them.

The interior art is so-so. I couldn't figure out why so much of the background art was repeated. At first I figured it was to break up chapters. Then I realized it had a much greater purpose - to narrow the margins so more pages could be set between the front and back cover. The first chapter (alomost half of the book), contained so much wasted space that if I did the math it would probably come out to only 45-55% of the pages was actual game content. When realizing this, the pain of recieving an incomplete game was made even worse.

An incomplete game? Yup, without purchasing out of print supplies the game can't even be played. The book doesn't contain ANY information regarding character advancement and development (beyond the ads/disads, sanity, and health). This wouldn't be bad IF the other book was available, or AT LEAST had a date set for release. I have since searched local used book stores and ordered out of print supplements to be able to play the game.

Ok, my last point is one that I came across the second time reading 'Rumors' from cover to cover. It appears that it was loosely proofed. There are grammatical and spelling errors throughout. And I have even found a reference to a chapter that doesn't even exist in the book. DUH. :o Now, I realize that I am not an English major. I am not perfect (even though I rant about others' work). So, to me that would imply that I wouldn't pick up on the mistakes easily - but they stand out anyway.

I would be glad to make a list of the written errors I am finding in the book if 7th is looking for input. I stopped keeping track half way through the first chapter.

My advice: Don't buy 'Rumors'. If 'Beyond the Veil' is ever actually released I wouldn't suggest buying it either. I would suggest letting someone else buy it first and then deciding whether to buy it based upon their level of satisfaction. Everything you need to play is in the older books that are still floating around. It may take time to find a copy, but even a beat up 1st edition 'Beginning' would be better than a mint 'Rumors'.

And yes, I know I wanted this book very BADLY. That is why I am warning others not to waste their time chasing down a copy, paying freight to get it shipped to you, or even asking to borrow it from your neighbor.

-end quote-

Hope this helps.

M-N
