What about some limbers?

Score 5.0 (1 person)
September 3 2005, 3:21 AM

Hi,

The list of new German WW2 gun kits is very welcome, but what about the limbers to go with them? A lot of WW2 artillery was still horse-drawn yet so far there are virtually no kits of the limbers that were used.

Keep up the good work.

Regards

Ivan Hollingsworth

P.S. Will the sIG 33 come with both early and late pattern wheels?

Soviet
2S3, 2S5, 2S7, BM-22 Uragan or smerch, MT-lB with vasilek 82mm mortar(afghanistan and chechnia), 2S19 and BTR-80 with 120mm mortar anona

Here's my list:

- ASU-85
- ZSU-57-2 (can use some parts from T-55, I've tried to make a conversion once with some leftovers from T-55's, but never finished)
- Type 62 (chinese tank, like T-55 only smaller

Hopefully we'll see them in the future!

Privyet,Alexey; For modern artillery, I remember the long-barreled M198 U.S.155mm gun/howitzers at Ft.Campbell,Ky. many years ago;they were tn that division towed behind M800 series 5-ton 6x6 trucks. Unfortunately,-many had cracked aluminum trails...which my shop welded back together, where I worked (the guns had to be light enough to sling beneath a CH-47D Chinook helicopter). In fact I request more WW2 artillery pieces: British Army 2-pounder anti-tank gun; US (ww2) M2 105mm howitzer; Soviet M1927 76.2mm regimental infantry gun w/ crew; Soviet M1939 76.2mm field gun "crash-boom" named by Germans; U.S.155mm howitzer; U.S/British 75mm pack-airborne howitzer;and some "Combination kits": German sd.kfz.10 (Demag 1-ton half track tractor + 5cm PAK 38; Komsomlyets tractor + 45mm Soviet AT gun; M1939 Soviet 76.2mm field gun + horse-drawn limber; British 2pounder AT gun portee on 30CWT (hundred-weight capacity) Chevrolet or Ford lorry. Hi Alexey

We have chatted before about production of these weapons. I would especially like to see production of the M46 and other artillary used in the Angolan Civil war, e.g. KS-19, ZPU 1,2 AND 4 and Yugoslav triple barrelled M62. Also SAM 6 and the tracking vehicle would be great as would SAM-8.

For the record AEROGRAPHIX produces G-5 and BAXMOD is considering the G-6 Rhino as well as other SADF vehicles.

Look forward to hearing from you in this regard

My mistake on yesterdays email. The Yugoslav triple barrel I would like is the M-55 (not as incorrectly stated an M-62).

S-60 is an addition for artillary pieces. 120mm morter would also be great as would unusual USSR vechicles e.g. TMM-BV, MAOY-Y-24, MTU-20MB, Barlock GCI, Spoon Rest EWS and Flat-Face TAS (for SAM-6).

Any drawings from all sides of these weapons would be welcome for scratch building as well.

November 3 2005, 2:01 AM

HI Alexey,
My most wanted would be 105mm U.S. W.W.II. followed closely by U.S. 75mm pack howitzer. Of course 155 mm U.S.or U.S. 37 mm would be nice too! In fact any U.S. W WII would be great as there really is none worth mentioning. It's easy to find both German and Russian artillery but very hard to find Italian,British or U.S.
I recently was able to purchase your 88 "barn door" kit...not buildt yet but it looks very nice on the sprues.

keep up your good work !
cheers, Jim

I would like to see the following in 1/72:

US WW2: M2A1 105mm howitzer
US WW2: M1 57mm anti-tank gun (not really artillery I know..)
USSR WW2: B2 152mm or B4 203mm soviet tracked howitzers

The last soviet howitzer series just looks brutal, I believe AER offers them in resin. German artillery is offered satisfactory with the latest ace releases. UM/skif already has the soviet zis-2 and zis-3 guns in plastic. Maybe a decent plastic set like Italeri 1:72 German Guns Pak 35 + Pak 40 + Flak 38 (7026) would be welcomed. (The esci/italeri set is quite terrible, I could only rescue the pak-37.) Again though this is no true artillery.

keep up the good work Ace models!

From WWI I'd like to see famous French 75mm and Russian 76mm

I'd like to see the US 75mm Pack Howitzer on M8 carriage, as it was also used by the British, a British 2 pounder and 6 pounder anti-tank gun as well. Some anti-aircraft guns would be cool as well, like a British 3.7 inch AA gun or 40mm Bofors used by both the British and US.

I realize that you are reading the pulse of your public, and I am part of your public, but please don't run this kind of contest anymore! Several years ago you asked this question and the US M-109 won your competition. For whatever your reasons are, you never did, and still refuse to produce it. I am NOT criticizing you for this. I understand that you don't want to compete with companies like Revell and Dragon for market share, after all your kits are limited production and can't match their crisp expensive moulding techniques, again I am NOT criticizing you. I am simply saying that when yuo run contests like this you simply tell people up front not to list any American subjects because as you can see by the response, the M-109 is a heavy favorite again and we both know that you are not going to produce it.

Thanx
JC

John whats up with U?
Ace still is a small company, and whenever they ask for a most wanted piece, zhey have to think about it if it will be making money or not,and that is the problem with many U.S. kits, cause most major companies concentrate on this topic. And tis means that more exotic items are more interesting for companies like ACE. E.g. Revell produces a wide range of Afv's but they concentrate on Germany,England and the US,Dragon mostly covers the US and so on.So just the rumor that anyone might produce this or that kit sooner or later tells ACE not to waste money with it,cause the danger is too big.but there are other products uncovered by thte major players (AA,Recovery,Utility asoand these are the kits ACE should make, cause others don`t seem to care, because u dont see them daily on TV or in Newspapers. So for example there are not so many French vehicles produced in Small scale currently 'though this is a Land Revell could wonderfully cover, but Ace is currently THE producer who offers most French kits.
BTW these are the modern kits mentioned several times

US

m108(2x)
M109(2x)
M198 (2x)

CZE
DANA(3x)

RU
2S3 (2x)
2s5 (3x)
2s7 (3x)
2s19(2x)
D-30(2x)
D-20(2x)
sa-n-6 (2x)
smerch (2x)
shilka(2x)
so I don't see the m108 or M109 winning this time.
So please stop Complaining and start to be happy about the fact that there are atleast 1 or 2 companies that try to realize topics wished by their customers.

Exactly my point!

February 4 2006, 2:37 AM

Tom,

That is exactly my point! Thank You! You just restated in a different manner what I was saying. Since Revell and Dragon focus so much in the US and English arenas, Alexey should just ask for the most popular pieces excluding US and English pieces. I love the fact that ACE has done such a great job with Russian pieces and other countries pieces. I am simply stating that if you are going to run a contest like this and you know you have no intention of producing American or English pieces, simply state that NO American or English pieces should be submitted. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan and customer of ACE, I simply don't want to waste my vote on something that has NO chance of being produced by ACE.

Thanx.

Lots of english stuff being made? Apart from modern stuff (Challenger I, now being discontinued I believe, and the Warrior), the only things Revell are releasing is Matchbox re-releases in 1/76, the only WWII Brit model Revell has made is the Cromwell tank. There hasn't been any Brit artillery made in ages, and the only decent british artillery models out there in small scale are the Airfix 40mm Bofors and the Esci(now Italeri) 25 pounder

Concerning the M-109,its unlikely ACE will produce it when its been announced by several Companies,,,why so they can Languish on the shelves of Hobbyshop or with a Distributor> ACE is Best doing Subjects others ignore,I've known Alexey a long-time having actually Met him in person.Alexey Lives,Breathes,Kits...he's Amalogated towards Producing some Fine Kits...while they may be Tricky to Assemble unless you own every known Modern Modeling tool, they do have the Details that some Injected Kits do not.And ACE does do alot of Vehicles no one else would Dare touch in any Medium. While I disagree with his Methods sometimes, you cannot Fault the Man for being on the Front-Line when it comes to Delivering sought after kits in 72nd scale! Alexey, why bother running Polls, you have those Janes Books Dwight sent from me...go with what you feel most Comfortable with..afterall these are your Masterpieces of Plastic...Never Forget that My Friend!

r u the man?

No score for this post
July 4 2006, 3:56 AM

i have been looking at the ACE website since last week when i came across some 1/72 scale LAVs by ACE on e-bay.

there are no 1/72 LAVs in any of the 7 model-shops in my city (auckland, new zealand) and none of the retailers had even heard of ACE. but 1 did find some ace models in a catalog.

anyway, i just joined up today and have my own discussion group, still no replies yet and i have read several postings and replied to your recent 1 about artillery.

from what i've been reading i am wondering...r u the man? is you the boss of ACE.

if so, i think its awesome that you have some 1/72 LAVs and more than 1 version (command, mortar etc.)

i am 13 years old girl (14 in september), and have been playing toy-soldiers with my dad even before i started elementary school.

we don't play much now as he discovered age of empires 2 years ago, and finds it more fun to play PC war.

my interest is to build a USMC Marine Expeditionary Unit in 1/72 for ground combat elements, 1/144 for air combat elements and 1/720 for naval combat elements.

do u know if there is an ACE distributor or re-seller in New Zealand?

is it possible to order kit-sets directly from you? or are there some ACE fans that sell-onwards?

i think my project will take many years...but i want to try and build-up MEU before i leave home in 5 or 6 years.

maybe i won't be able to make a complete supported infantry battalion, but if i could make a company will be very cool.

does other girls play toysoldiers? none of my friends or cousin do. but i see lots of girls join the military and many has combat.

will be happy for any advice on how to get ACE 1/72 LAVs in New Zealand and any other advice how to build up my MEU.

churbo,

Wi

Kits in New Zealand

No score for this post
January 9 2007, 9:07 AM

Just replying to the message above, Modelcrafts and Hobbies down in Wellington have the odd ACE kit, but their website http://modelcraftsandhobbies.co.nz only lists one. You could still try them.

One of the better overseas sellers of ACE stuff is www.hobbyterra.com, a Ukraine based retailer who offer reasonable prices and reasonable plus fast shipping (i.e. US$13 for 3-4 kits). I've used them twice now with no problems at all. Aviapress.com is another good one, though a lot more expensive per item (over twice hobbyterra) they have a fixed overseas postage rate of US$15.00. I haven't used them yet though.

Good luck!

Hello all,

New to the board (and returning to modelling after many, many years away...)

I wild like to second Mark's call for the post-war Soviet and Russian anti-tank guns. This is a subject that hasn't been done elsewhere, to my knowledge.

Also, the entire range of Soviet artillery--D-20, D-30 and the 2S3, 2S5, etc. Again, not, to my knowledge, done elsewhere.

Just my two cents, but I'd certainly buy a couple copies of each.

Frog 7
A-220 152mm Truck-Howitzer (that just looked cool when I saw it)
2S19 MSTA-S
Tochka Tactical Missile
SS-25 Topol

Another one I would love would be the G6 Self Propelled howitzer, perhaps even, if you could find enough research on it, the Al-Fao. I would love to see somebody producing the brainchildren of Gerald Bull.

Oh yeah - addendum to my list.

2S7 - because big howitzers are always loved.
Kondensator 2P - longshot wish, but hey, a guy's gotta dream.

Hi Simon,

I presume the G6 you refer to is the South African "Rhino". Check Aerographix web site. Stephen Henn may still produce these and several other weapons including G5. BAXMODEL alo produces several SA stuff, including Ratel IPV, Buffel, Mfezi etc.

D30's are already produced (Military Models I think and not too bad) - see an earlier Alexey email
