Hi there! This forum doesn't look like it has much traffic (hah) but I hope someone will read it sooner or later. (I'd prefer sooner)

I have an Esci/Ertl 1:72 set of modern Warsaw Pact troops, little infantry figures. I want to make a diorama with these figures and a T-72. I already assembled and painted the T-72, which had very detailed instructions, but now I don't know how to paint the figures. I don't know how the uniforms of the Motor Rifle troops looked like. Actually, I don't know any modern Russian field uniforms. Does anyone have pictures or painting instructions?
I'd be grateful for any information!

Try to find a Dragon box from a Soviet Motor rifle troops 1/35 figure set (shown exact "afghanka" style uniform) or any "Men at Arms" series book with Soviet army (say "Afghanistan War 1979-1989")troops.
If you wish to go with modern Russian infantry - check for photos here:

Hello,
I think none of the figures in this box could be used for Russian Motor Rifle troops without some conversions on your part. At least you have a pile cap to start with. The figures in the box are East Germans, Czech, Hungarian, and Polish (oddly no Rumanians or Bulgarians).

Please see the scan of ESCI's Warsaw Pact troops. They are (top to bottom rows) East German, Polish, Czech, and Hungarian. For some reason, no Bulgarian or Romanians. The thing that helped identify them was the fact they are almost lifted directly from the Osprey book's illustration plates.

And while examining them to figure out what armies they represented, I was struck by how well detailed they were. They are quite good, and when you know what youare looking for, they are very well and accurately done.

Arlin.

Sincerely, Alexey.
