Couple Changes to Saturday & Sunday Bracket Racing

From now on all Saturday Bracket Racing will be 1/8 mile. We made this change because we feel it will benefit the program by letting the drivers use less fuel with rising costs and also less wear and tear on parts. Test and tune will remain 1/4 mile.

Also CrossTalk will be enabled in all electronic classes starting now. This includes Box on Saturday's, Top ET on Sundays, and Top Dragster and Sportsman categories.

Here is some information on crosstalk if you are unfamiliar.

CROSSTALK program now solves the problem of the open (and pointed straight back) versus shielded top bulb controversy. CROSS-TALK allows the Tree to be fully shielded (all ambers) if desired, with all 3 Ambers on each side of the Tree aimed directly at the drivers. CROSS-TALK functions in eliminations by firing the top amber in both lanes at the same time. This allows both cars a direct ‘hit’ on the Tree. The slower lane’s Tree will continue counting down to the 2nd, then 3rd ambers as normal. The faster car’s top amber will remain lit until time comes for the 2nd and 3rd amber in that lane to cycle down. Note that the CROSSTALK function would only be run during eliminations of electronics classes. Non-electronics class (for example, foot-brake E.T., stock, super stock, etc.) would have a ‘normal’ functioning Tree.

Re: Couple Changes to Saturday & Sunday Bracket Racing

Was there a vote to change saturday to 1/8 mile? I would rather run 1/4 mile and spend the extra money on gas and parts. I don't know how other people feel but i disagree with the decision..

Why 1/8 Mile

May 18 2008, 6:01 PM

(I hope this will get posted to the board...I feel these are some honest concerns and questions)

Why brought this on? Who are these racers that can't afford to 1/4 mile race?

So now if we want to race all weekend...we have to have a data base set up for Saturday and one for Sunday. Anything we do on Saturday to dial the car is now USELESS on Sunday. How is that helping the racer out?

So how slick will the back half be on Sunday being only the 1/8th will be prepped on Saturday?

Fast cars will still have to drive all the way to the top end to turn off. How much will that slow the program down waiting for everyone to drive the extra 1/8 mile of shutdown at a reduced speed?

Is this the beginning of the end for 1/4 mile? Being IHRA has foolishly begun to run some national events in the 1/8 mile.

We built our junk to GO FAST... On the 1/8 mile some of the cars here will be going the same speed that is the adverage speed on I-696...I can do that in my 1 ton dually...

I guess for some people now Saturday is a skip it day...Or go down to Norwalk and then drive up to Milan for Sunday...Have to think about that...could lose car counts with this on Saturday.

The 1/8 mile is for places like Ubly. Not national event quality facilities like Milan.

I don’t mind the 1/8 mile racing on Saturday I think that is fine. I just hope the Top Dragster/Top Sportsman races are still going to be 1/4 mile. I think running those races only 1/8th will hurt the program.

I think this is a terrible thing to happen, C'mon how much more fuel does it cost, basically we are paying higher prices to enter and only getting to run 1/2 the track..... now we need to change the entire car around to race 1/8 mile.. i see it costing more to the average racer, changes to car, same fuel to get to the track, higher entry

I guess I should just sit out this year cause I already built the car to run 1/4 mile this year with a entire new combo...

THANKS ALOT

Run the 1/8 mile requires you to be a better driver. You have to be good on the tree and do what you are out there to do. And besides there is no cryin in racing. If you cant cut a good light go to JR Dragster with the little kiddies

Don't know what class you run in (and don't care) but in my class if you're not cutting .01-.03 lights you better put it on the trailer. And that's with no box! You can't get much better than that. So you statment about 1/8 mile racing makes you better on the lights is inaccurate. With the bracket competition as close as it is you better cut a good light regardless of track distance.

1/8 mile

May 20 2008, 12:58 PM

I want 1/4 mile on Sat!!!! I set my car up to go 134 MPH not 90 I enjoy racing 1/4 mile and I don't think I will get used to 1/8. I mean if that's all we get then what choice do I have? No one will leave Milan and they (Milan) know that, if you want to race and Milan is the closest to you, will you drive to another track? With Fuel at $4.80 a gall (Diesel) I cant afford to drive to another track when Milan is 20 Min from my house. I would think the staff at Milan know only a few will leave and they must be ok with it? Its just a shame that we have been reduced (on Sat) to 1/8 mile. One more disappointment after another. My guess car count wount suffer one bit....

gollllllly!

May 21 2008, 2:50 PM

yeah like fuel cost has anything to do with this. I just bought a car for 7000 bucks, with plans on running 120 mph in the 1/4.

90 mph in the 1/8 aint gonna cut it for me.

guess ill just have to go to norwalk....thats lame.

There is more to this decision than management is leading on. And I'll eat a screwdriver if I am wrong.

Saturday & Sunday Bracket Racing

May 19 2008, 11:19 AM

Running 1/8th. mile events on Saturday and 1/4 mile events on Sunday may have the reverse effect of splitting the fields as racers are forced to choose which event to compete in based on how they set thier cars up.

I tend to agree with the other racers thoughts on the subject that racers who choose to run the 1/8th. mile event will set thier cars up to hit harder at launch which may cause the unwanted effect of an increase in breakage as they push thier cars harder.

Maybe I am wrong but at last Sundays 1/8th. mile event there appeared to be the same amount of down time due to breakage as any 1/4 mile event I have been at?

Thanks
Pete

1/8 mile drag racing

May 19 2008, 11:20 AM

Milan Dragway - I think you are making a big mistake. A couple of my friends have already voiced their opinion - "I'm not going to Milan to watch 1/8 mile drags". Maybe you should reconsider. Just my 2 cents worth.

Oh crap!!!

May 19 2008, 4:26 PM

I do not like racing 1/8 mile. I'll do it if I don't have a choice, Weather, general safety. but I will not race 1/8 mile for $500 or less if I can race 1/4 somewhere else. I am afraid that this will hurt car count. Allot! 1/8 mile racing is just not fun for me, not enough distance. I've gone to some big money races that are 1/8 only because the payout was $2500 or more. I live 10 miles from the track and I don't want to drive to another track far away just to race 1/4, but now I might have to? Please reconsider this decision. Taking things from the Saturday program is just making the car count problem worse. I think adding a points series again with a slight increase in payout based on car count would help the problem. I would do whatever I could to help as long as we keep racing 1/4.

Keeping my fingers crossed
Matt Luttrell

Re: Couple Changes to Saturday & Sunday Bracket Racing

May 19 2008, 3:48 PM

If we're forced to run 1/8 we should be charged half the entry. The track's insurance premiums should be reduced due to less speed. Maybe this is the real reason for the change.....did the insurance company raise the track's rates???? Be honest!!! It's funny the street cars get to still run 1/4 mile. Is that because the average street car can only do 80mph in the quarter? Oh yeah, 1/4 does mean more fuel usage....Milan sells fuel....where is the logic.

Thanks,
Kraut

1/8th mile

May 19 2008, 6:59 PM

Hope this is a joke! 1/8th mile racing is for craphole podunk tracks in places where there isn't enough room between hills for a 1/4 mile track. I'm not currently racing but have spent a good part of my life going to Milan. I plan to race again in a couple years and I assure you I would have ZERO interest in running 1/8th at Milan if I could go somewhere else and run 1/4 mile.

1/8 Mile

May 20 2008, 12:22 AM

Racing 1/8 mile on a saturdays to me seems like the best possible way for everyday racers. Why beat on your stuff for a couple hundred dollars. There is no difference between the two except the finish line is closer (get used to it). There is no gearing change or different set-up for racing eighth mile and if you need to change your set-up to run 1/8 mile thats on you. Milan is doing what is best for everyone. There are 3 other days the track is open to race 1/4 mile. Come see them then.

"There is no gearing change or different set-up for racing eighth mile and if you need to change your set-up to run 1/8 mile thats on you"

You comment shows how little you know about setting up a quick car to run the number.

I didn't put together a 900hp package to go and leave 300hp in the trailer because there isn't enough gear and convertor to run in the top of the power band in the 1/8 vs the 1/4

if we can only race on half of the track, then we should race for half cost, i do not support going to 1/8th mile, but if you do, thats how it should be..
